AURIZON®, suspension pour instillation auriculaire - COMPOSITION QUALITATIVE ET QUANTITATIVE : Marbofloxacine 3 mg. Clotrimazole 10 mg. Dexaméthasone (sous forme d’acétate) 0,9 mg. Gallate de propyle
1 mg. Excipient qsp 1 ml - INDICATIONS : Chez les chiens : traitement des otites externes d’origine bactérienne et fongique dues respectivement à des bactéries sensibles à la marbofloxacine et à des
champignons, particulièrement Malassezia pachydermatis, sensibles au clotrimazole. La spécialité ne doit être utilisée qu’après vérification de la sensibilité des souches. - CONTRE-INDICATIONS : Ne pas
administrer aux chiens atteints d’une perforation de la membrane tympanique, lors d’hypersensibilité connue à l’un des composants et chez les chiennes en gestation ou allaitantes. - UTILISATION EN CAS DE
GRAVIDITE ET DE LACTATION : L’innocuité de la spécialité chez la chienne pendant la gestation et la lactation n’a pas été montrée (c.f. rubrique «contre-indications»). - EFFETS INDESIRABLES : Les effets indésirables classiques des corticoïdes peuvent être observés (perturbation des paramètres biochimiques et hématologiques) telle qu’une augmentation des phosphatases alcalines et des aminotransférases, ainsi
qu’une neutrophilie limitée. L’usage prolongé et intensif de préparations topiques corticoïdes est connu pour induire des effets locaux et généraux, incluant la suppression de la fonction adrénalienne, un amincissement de l’épiderme et une cicatrisation retardée. - POSOLOGIE – MODE D'ADMINISTRATION : 10 gouttes par voie auriculaire une fois par jour pendant 7 à 14 jours. Après 7 jours de traitement, et suite à
l’évaluation du vétérinaire, le traitement peut être renouvelé une semaine supplémentaire. Une goutte de la spécialité contient 71 µg de marbofloxacine, 237 µg de clotrimazole et 23,7 µg de dexaméthasone
acétate. Mode d’administration : Bien agiter avant l’emploi. Après instillation, masser brièvement et doucement la base de l’oreille pour permettre à la spécialité de pénétrer dans la partie basse du conduit
auditif. Quand le produit est destiné à traiter plusieurs chiens, utiliser une canule par chien. - SURDOSAGE (SYMPTÔMES, PROCEDURES D’URGENCES, ANTIDOTES) : A partir de trois fois la dose recommandée, des
modifications des paramètres hémato-biochimiques (telle qu’une augmentation des phosphatases alcalines, des aminotransférases, une neutrophilie limitée, une éosinopénie, une lymphopénie) sont

Malassezia is an important factor
When talking about otitis externa, bacterial and yeast infections are considered to be perpetuating
factors of an underlying disease(1).

Therefore it is essential to treat both bacteria and yeasts with a multivalent drug.
Aurizon® has been developed by Vetoquinol including both strong antibacterial (marbofloxacin)
and antifungal (clotrimazole) agents.

Most of otitis are mixed infections, involving bacteria (mainly Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa),
and yeasts. Malassezia pachydermatis are isolated in ... % of otitis externa(2).

The relevance of Aurizon® to treat
Malassezia otitis externa
A study was performed to evaluate if the Aurizon® triple association (clotrimazole, marbofloxacine and dexamethasone) was more effective than
the use of a topical antifungal agent (econazole) used alone to treat Malassezia otitis externa(4).
20 dogs presenting with a bilateral otitis externa were included in the study: cases with numerous yeasts (>10 per high power field) demonstrated
on cytological examination were included. Each ear was randomized to be treated either with Aurizon® or econazole once daily for 10 days.
Criteria analyzed were the score of itching evaluated by the owner (visual analogue scale), the scores of erythema and amount of cerumen
evaluated by the investigator, and the number of yeasts on cytological smears.
All animals demonstrated a good improvement in Malassezia counts after either treatment (figure 1), but significant differences were noted in
favour of Aurizon for erythema (p=0.0005), cerumen (p=0.001), pruritus on D6 (p=0.02), D8 (p=0.008) and D10 (p=0.02) (figures 2,3,4).
