Titre du stage : Development of dedicated diagnostic tools for nondestructive testing applications.
• Contexte of the internship :
The internship will take place within a team of the Structure Health Engineering Department of the Research Center
of EADS Innovation Works Toulouse. The activities of the department deal with the non-destructive investigation and
health monitoring of materials and structures used in aircraft. The techniques used are mostly ultrasound, eddy
current, optical, X-rays ... but these areas also rely on many different skills (mathematics, physics, material,
electronics, signal / image processing, optics, computer ... ). The team's goal is to develop innovative products and
methods to optimize the performance of EADS divisions.
• Description of the internship :
Prototype and develop, in Matlab or Java, processing tools for 2D and 3D data coming from nondestructive testing in
order to improve the analysis capabilities of these data from the software platforms developed by EADS IW. The
objective is to reduce the time spent to diagnose health of inspected composite parts (automatic diagnosis).
The trainee will work specifically on tools, using signal, image and data processing (existing or to be developed by
the trainee).
Algorithms and tools can be prototyped and tested in Matlab before being transcribed in Java and integrated into
NDT kit, software made by EADS.
The data to be processed will be mainly ultrasonic data.
The trainee will work in a team with the NDT kit industrial software developers and with engineers of the R & D
service, while demonstrating autonomy. Curiosity, creativity and ability to suggest potential solutions will be
appreciated.
• Skills required (human and technical) :
Knowledge in mathematics, signal processing, image processing and analysis (2D and 3D) and data processing in
object-oriented programming (Java, Matlab).
Basis in Physics (wave propagation, materials) would be an asset.
Foreign languages: Having good writing skills in English, but also in German or Spanish would be an asset.
