In 1966 Hans Harald RATH, owner of LOBMEYR, designed 32 chandeliers and 331 wall lights for the the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center in New York. The interstellar appearance of these lights was inspired by an illustration of "Le Ciel", a book of the French astrophysicist JeanClaude PECKER1, that was sent by the architect Wallace K. Harrison to Hans Harald Rath. The magnificent chandeliers were placed in the auditorium of the Opera, featuring polished brass and glittering clusters of crystal, this place has become one of the most iconic spots of New York. In 2008, the beautiful lights returned to their birthplace, the LOBMEYR workshops in Vienna, for their restoration. The MET series is one of the best-seller of LOBMEYR lighting collection to this day and still in production by the master craftsmen in the family heritage workshops in Vienna. After celebrating in situ with pomp the 50th anniversary, last May during the Design Week in New York, an echo in Paris was necessary, before the grand finale in Vienna. Galerie16 RUE DE LILLE and LOBMEYR are happy to organize the exhibition : "Les 50 ans du MET", on this occasion, unique pieces from the original decoration of the Metropolitan Opera in 1966 will be presented to collectors, together with editions as well as sketches, materials and vintage images. _______________ LOBMEYR (Vienna, Austria), founded in 1823 by Josef LOBMEYR, supplier of the imperial court, becomes the reference of Bohemian crystal in Austria.
