Books of the Month: French Special! Outstanding! School Council
20th Edition— June 2012
Outstanding!
Our recent Ofsted inspection was a resounding success with the school rated
“Outstanding” in all five categories of the report. To put this into context only 1 in 500
schools are rated at this level across the UK, which helps to establish Radnor House as
one of the leading Independent schools in the UK.
The most pleasing aspect of the report was the recognition of our high quality teaching
which is becoming a hallmark of the school. As the report states:
“Radnor House provides an outstanding quality of education and very successfully
meets its aims. As a result of a rich and diverse curriculum and outstanding teaching
and assessment, pupils make outstanding progress. Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, their behaviour, and the provision for pupils’ welfare, health and safety, including safeguarding, are also outstanding. The school meets
all of the independent school regulations.”
We are very proud of Radnor House and pleased to see the rapid progress pupils from all backgrounds are making here. If
you would like to know more about the school please join us on a forthcoming tour.
Mr. Paton MA, Head Elect
School Council
As you may already know, we recently had the meeting of the first ever School Council. As
the school council we have many jobs and duties. We have already put suggestion boxes in
all classrooms for the students to suggest things. There have already been suggestions
which we have taken into account e.g. cookery classes and a library book finder. Some of
our roles as school councillors are listening to other students’ ideas and thoughts, thinking
of ways to improve the school and making new students and members of staff feel welcome. We will have our next meeting on 11th June.

Y9 have been watching and writing reviews of the film
Au Revoir Les Enfants in French:
Animal Adaptations
Y5 have been studying the different ways in which
animals are physically adapted to their environments
by creating their own adapted creatures in Biology.
y a vingt-cinq ans.
fantastique.”

Painshill Park Field Trip
“The Y3s and Y4s had an amazing time at Painshill Park . These are the events.
First we searched in leaf litter and under logs to find insects and we found a
pregnant spider. We found lots of insects and placed them gently in a tray and
put some mud and leaves in as well. The house teams counted the insects they
had collected and decided who had the most. Pope won, having got 21, Parnell
came 2nd and Swift and Voltaire both came 3rd. After that we headed to the
grassy hills where each house claimed a white sheet. We each put a sheet under a tree and shook the tree to see what fell off. One group found a big spider. Everyone found loads of insects. Our third activity was running in the grass
with nets. We ran in pairs for 10 seconds and then we emptied our nets on a sheet. Some people’s catches flew away. Then
we ate lunch, which was ham or egg sandwiches with bananas and apple or orange juice. Then we played for a bit. Our next
activity was a treasure hunt. Our group leader got a set of questions and a map. We had to go to different places by using
clues. Then we had to get back to a certain field. Voltaire came first, then Parnell, Swift and Pope. We dug up the treasure. It
was stickers and Sir promised to give us chocolate coins later when they wouldn’t melt.”
