On a seemingly routine spacewalk, the shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left, and the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space. Trop gentils, tout le monde abuse de leur sympathie. Jusqu'au jour où suite au décès du frère de José, ils vont hériter de leur maison au Portugal, de terrains, d'argent. Mais peut-on réellement laisser repartir les époux Ribeiro, eux qui sont si serviables ? Leurs amis et leurs employeurs vont alors tout imaginer pour garder ce gentil couple bien sagement à Paris. Camille a rencontré Éric à 16 ans, il fut le premier et le dernier homme de sa vie. Ils sont tombés fous amoureux et encore adolescents, ont eu une fille. La mère de Camille n'a jamais su qu'elle allait être grand-mère, elle est morte quelques heures avant que Camille le lui annonce. Vingt-cinq ans plus tard, dans les années 2000, Camille a la quarantaine et est devenue alcoolique, Éric la quitte pour une femme plus jeune. Le jour du réveillon du jour de l'An, Camille s’enivre et finit par s'écrouler, elle se retrouve alors projetée dans son adolescence dans les années 1980.
