www.anglophonie.fr page 1/2 Is 3D the Future of TV ? (CBC, Jan. 2011) http://www.cbc.ca/video/#/News/Technology_and_Science/1244504143/ID=1692528959 For Mark Crumley, the future of entertainment is in those glasses. - So, what do you think of it? - I enjoy it, it’s a nice picture. He’s had his new 3D TV set for a little more than a week. He’s hooked. Yeah, the future. Everything will change. I imagine it’ll get better. Increasingly more and more newer model televisions are being built with 3D options, but there’ve also been warnings that not necessarily all viewers’ eyes are built for 3D. 3D TV works by combining two slightly different 2D pictures as special glasses shutter from eye to eye. That tricks the brain into seeing depth. Some people have complained of headaches and dizziness. Dr.Patrick Quaid has been looking into those reactions. He says the technology itself likely doesn’t do any damage, but it can be uncomfortable for people with weak eye muscles. He says before buying, get an eye test. I think that the fact that it brings symptoms to the surface is something that certainly people should be made aware of. Samsung’s TVs include warnings. Not because they’re dangerous the company says, just unfamiliar. When color TV first came out, there were advisories for color television. When video games first came out, you know, there are constant advisories for everything and anything. - Do you ever find yourself getting eye strained or headaches or anything from it or…? - No, we’ve watched three movies and I haven’t yet. He’s just excited to see how it works for sports, particularly hockey night in Canada, the Canadians versus his Leafs. - It’s gonna be different. I’m waiting for it, I wanna see it. - But we’re probably still see the Leaves lose in 3D, right? - Ah, well, they’ve been struggling. - Leaves’ fan! Win or lose, those glasses will let him see a Canadian broadcast first that, he’s convinced, will soon be the new standard. Cameron Macintosh, CBC News. page 2/2 Vocabulary 1.
