Secondary Education).
The chief source of words for the basic vocabularies is the lists of theorems
and constructions published by the National Committee, the College Entrance
Examination Board, and the University of the State of New York.
In additional to the basic vocabularies, there are secondary vocabularies which
contain words that are often used but arc not indispensable.
Words listed in E. L. Thorndike's The Teacher's Word Book or in Ernest
Horn's A Basic Writing Vocabulary are rated as not technical.
Words that occur only occasionally in a few exercises (especially in applications of geometry to other subjects) arc not a legitimate part of either a
basic or a secondary technical vocabulary of geometry.
The great variety of social, economic, and intellectual backgrounds of
geometry students of to- day are taken into account.
As a vocabulary is a living, growing thing, a separate list is made of those
words whose usefulness is decreasing rapidly although they arc still considered
part of a technical vocabulary.
The vocabularies for solid geometry consist of those for plane geometry plus
additional lists built in a similar manner.
SUR QUELQUES DEFINITIONS ET THÉORÈMES
DE L'ARITHMÉTIQUE

Dans une communication faite au Congrès de Bologne 1 ) j'avais donné une expression nouvelle de la définition des nombres premiers et j'y avais indiqué des conséquences qui en résultent.
De nouvelles recherches m'ont montré qu'on peut, en s'appuyant sur l'idée d'ordre,
qui m'a conduit à donner la dite expression, fonder une méthode pour exprimer d'une
manière nouvelle beaucoup de théorèmes de l'Arithmétique et étendre encore cette
manière d'expression à certaines propriétés des congruences du premier degré.
Je me bornerai ici à indiquer la modification de l'expression qui survient à quelques théorèmes de l'Arithmétique élémentaire.
