FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER – THOUGHTS ON THE GOSPEL
No doubt like most of us Judas was a complex mixture of motivations with his
inherent goodness competing with the attraction of sin and easy solutions. By contrast,
the call of Jesus is demanding; it drags us often kicking and screaming far beyond our
self-constructed comfort zones, and we see this in the very example of Jesus' life.
After Judas leaves the room, Jesus goes on to exhort his followers to a very
different kind of discipleship – the way of love. And as the yardstick for how far they
should go, he gives the example of his own life. “I give you a new commandment:
love one another: just as I have loved you, you also must love one another.” This is the
way of service to others, self-sacrifice and self-giving. The letting go of the selfish ego
to embrace God and neighbour is the way of true freedom and transfiguration.

Nous sommes réunis aujourd'hui autour de Jésus ressuscité. Le Dieu vivant
nous convie à demeurer en relation étroite avec lui, solidaires de nos frères et sœurs.
Rendons grâce au Christ, qui se rend présent à notre monde.
Le prix de l'existence, ce qui fait qu'elle vaut maintenant d'être vécue, c'est
l'amour, l'amour que Jésus a eu pour les hommes, celui que nous nous témoignons les
uns aux autres.
Seigneur, je sais que tu m'aimes; tiens-moi tout près de ton cœur, dans la joie
et l'amour. Que ta douceur rafraîchisse toute ma vie!

COLLECTION FOR THE POPE's PASTORAL WORKS - Sunday, May 1, 2016
The collection provides an opportunity for Catholics to make a financial offering
to assist the Holy Father. One-third of the funds collected is for what is traditionally
known as Peter's Pence-donations used by the Pope for his charitable contributions to
those most in need. Two-thirds of the collection is to support the Holy Father in
administering the Holy Seat and serving the Universal Church (see Canon 1271).
Information about how Peter's Pence is used, as well as donations in response to Canon
1271, is available in the Holy Seat's yearly financial report.
The day of the collection, an appropriate intercession may be added in the
Prayer of the Faithful.
Each individual Christian and every community is called to be an instrument of
God for the liberation and promotion of the poor, and for enabling them to be fully a
part of society. This demands that we be docile and attentive to the cry of the poor and
to come to their aid. The old question always returns: How does God's love abide in
anyone who has the world's goods, and sees a brother or sister in need and yet
refuses help?

COLLECTE POUR LES OEUVRES PASTORALES DU PAPE – Dimanche, 1 mai,2016
La collecte permet aux catholiques de faire une contribution financière pour
appuyer le Saint-Père. Un tiers des fonds amassés est dirigé vers ce qui est
traditionnellement connu sous le nom de Denier de saint Pierre – fonds utilisés par le
Pape pour ses contributions charitables aux personnes les plus démunies. L'autre
deux-tiers de la collecte sert à aider le Saint-Père à gérer le Saint-Siège et à servir
l'Église universelle (voir le canon 1271). Le rapport financier annuel du Saint-Siège
décrit comment les fonds du Denier de saint Pierre et les dons liés au canon 1271
sont utilisés.
La journée de la collecte, une intercession appropriée put être ajoutée à la
prière des fidèles.
Chaque chrétien et chaque communauté sont appelés à être des instruments
de Dieu pour la libération et la promotion des pauvres, de manière à ce qu'ils puissent
s'intégrer pleinement dans la société; ceci suppose que nous soyons dociles et
attentifs à écouter le cri du pauvre et à le secourir. L'ancienne question revient toujours :
« Si quelqu'un, jouissant des biens de ce monde, voit son frère dans la nécessité et lui
ferme ses entrailles, comment l'amour de Dieu demeurerait-il en lui? »
