254 — INFORMATIONS ÉPIDÉMIOLOGIQUES — EPIDEMIOLOGICAL NOTES Œ O LÉRA Œ O LER A Asie Asia Japon. — Le 13 mai 1963, l’administration sanitaire du Japon a fait savoir par télégramme qu’un cas importé de choléra avait été confirmé à Kawaguchiko (Préfecture de Yamanashi). Il s’agit d’un jardinier anglais âgé de 22 ans, en provenance de Bombay, qui était arrivé à Tokyo le 7 mai par le vol Air-India N“ 112, via New Delhi, Bangkok, Hong Kong; il semblait alors être en bonne santé et possédait un certificat international de vaccination valable contre le choléra, daté des 5 et 12 mars 1963. Les symptômes commencèrent le 9 mai; le malade fut isolé à l’hôpital le 10 mai et le laboratoire confirma le diagnostic de choléra (type Inaba) le 12 mai. Peu avant de quitter Bombay, il s’était rendu dans plusieurs régions de l’Inde, dont Calcutta. Japan. — By telegram sent on 13 May, the health administration of Japan has notified one imported cholera case in Kawaguchiko, Yamanashi Prefecture. The patient, an English gardener aged 22, arrived in Tokyo on 7 May from Bombay by Air India flight 112, via New Delhi, Bangkok, Hong Kong. He appeared to be in good health, and he was in possession of a valid international vaccination certificate against cholera, dated S and 12 March 1963. Symptoms began on 9 May; he was isolated in hospital on 10 May, and the laboratory confirmed the diagnosis of cholera (Inaba type) on 12 May. Shortly before departure from Bombay, he had visited several areas in India, including Calcutta. Les mesures de contrôle nécessaires ont été prises. Malaisie. — 44 cas et 2 décès ont été rapportés le 10 mai dans le port de Malacca. Le premier cas avait été observé le 3 mai. Le labo ratoire a confirmé qu’il s’agissait de vibrion cholérique (type Ogawa). C’est la première fois depuis 1937 qu’une circonscription de Malaisie est infectée de choléra. La source de l’infection n ’est pas encore connue. Malaya. — 44 cases and 2 deaths have been notified in the port of Malacca on 10 May. The first case had been observed on 3 May. Laboratory examinations revealed that these were caused by cholera vibrio of the Ogawa type. Since 1937, this is the first time that a local area in Malaya is infected with cholera. The source of infection is not yet known. Canada. — Lithe first two weeks of March, outbreaks of influenza like illness, affecting all age groups, were reported from several localities in the Provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The first wave, which occurred in various areas of the south and middle of the Province, was attributed to para-influenza viruses types I and 11, but in a later wave, in the south-east corner of the Province, strains of influenza Virus type A2 were isolated; these strains seem to be similar to A2/Asian/57; this outbreak affected all age groups.
