The activities of the Museum of Ixelles
Créé il y a plus de 120 ans, le Musée d’Ixelles possède un patrimoine
essentiellement centré sur l’art belge du 16e siècle à nos jours : les tableaux
de Boulenger, Vogels, Van Rysselberghe, Frédéric, Khnopff, Wouters, De
Smet, Magritte et Delvaux côtoient des exceptions étrangères prestigieuses
comme Berthe Morisot, Rodin, Miró ou Picasso. Un fond exceptionnel
d’affiches Belle Époque y est également conservé avec, entre autres, la
série complète de Toulouse-Lautrec. Découvrez également nos dernières
acquisitions comme les oeuvres d’Alfred Stevens, du symboliste Constant
Montald ou une installation de Stephan Balleux.

Het Museum van Elsene bestaat al langer dan 120 jaar. Het bezit een rijke
collectie, waartoe hoofdzakelijk Belgische werken behoren van de 16de
eeuw tot heden: schilderijen van Boulenger, Vogels, Van Rysselberghe,
Frédéric, Khnopff, Wouters, De Smet, Magritte, Delvaux… Daarnaast bezit
het belangrijk werk van vooraanstaande buitenlandse kunstenaars als
Berthe Morisot, Rodin, Miró en Picasso. Bovendien gaat het prat op een
uitzonderlijke verzameling Belle-Epoque-affiches, met o.a. de volledige
reeks affiches van Toulouse-Lautrec. Verheugd over onze nieuwe aanwinsten
nodigen we u uit kennis te komen maken met de doeken van Alfred Stevens
en van de symbolist Montald en last but not least met de installatie van
Stephan Balleux.
Created more than 120 years ago, the Museum of Ixelles has a heritage
focused largely on Belgian art from the 16th century to the present day: work
by Boulenger, Vogels, Van Rysselberghe, Frederic, Khnopff, Wouters, De
Smet, Magritte and Delvaux, alongside many prestigious foreign pieces by
Berthe Morisot, Rodin, Mirò and Picasso. An exceptional collection of Belle
Epoque posters also delights, and includes, amongst others, the complete
works of Toulouse-Lautrec. Also discover our recent acquisitions such as the
works of Alfred Stevens, Symbolist Constant Montald or an installation by
Stephan Balleux.

Audioguide / Audioguids / New accompaniments
Pour découvrir ses collections permanentes, le Musée d’Ixelles vous propose
dès à présent un audioguide multimédia présentant une sélection d’une
trentaine d’œuvres commentées et agrémentées de photos, vidéos et textes
documentaires. Dès le 18 mai 2016, vous pourrez le télécharger gratuitement
sous la forme d’une application mobile via les plateformes Android et iOS.

Durant chaque grande exposition
temporaire, le Musée d’Ixelles ouvre
gratuitement deux soirs.
Pour nos jeunes visiteurs

Voor de kennismaking met zijn vaste collectie stelt het Museum van Elsene u
een multimedia audiogids ter beschikking. Door middel van foto’s, video’s en
documentaire teksten worden een dertigtal werken voorgesteld.
Vanaf 18 2016 mei kunt u hem gratis downloaden via een mobiele app
(Androïd en iOS).
The Museum of Ixelles helps you now in discovering its permanent collections
with a multimedia guide that provides extracts on about thirty works of art
with contextual imagery. You will be able to download the app for iOS and

Le Musée d’Ixelles propose, pour la première fois en Belgique, une exposition de l’œuvre
inventive et sensible d’Agnès Varda, photographe, cinéaste, vidéaste et artiste visuelle
née à Ixelles. L’exposition révèlera les développements artistiques récents d’Agnès Varda
(installations, photos, vidéos). Humaniste et sociale, l’œuvre généreuse et engagée d’Agnès
Varda a une portée universelle.
Het Museum van Elsene nodigt u uit voor een originele tentoonstelling met het gevoelige
werk van Agnès Varda. Het oeuvre van de in Elsene geboren fotografe, cineaste en
videokunstenares is er voor het eerst in België te zien. De tentoonstelling belicht de recente
artistieke ontwikkelingen in haar werk (installaties, foto’s, videokunst). Het feministische en
sociaal geëngageerde oeuvre van Agnes Varda heeft een universele reikwijdte.
For the first time in Belgium, the Museum of Ixelles presents an exhibition of innovative and
perceptive work by Agnes Varda, a photographer, film maker, video artist and visual artist born
in Ixelles. The exhibition reveals the latest artistic developments of Agnes Varda (installations,
photographs and videos). As a humanist and social commentator, Varda’s rich and passionate
work is universal

PHOTOREALISM. 50 Years of Hyperrealistic Painting

Après le grand succès de l’exposition consacrée au sculpteur américain hyperréaliste Duane
Hanson en 2014, le Musée d’Ixelles présente PHOTOREALISM. Cette exposition met en
lumière la production hyperréaliste des peintres américains des années 1960 à la fin des
années 1980. Dans le sillage du Pop-Art, les hyperréalistes dépeignent et critiquent la société
américaine de consommation dans un style quasi photographique fascinant.
Na het grote succes van onze tentoonstelling in 2014 over het werk van de Amerikaanse
hyperrealistische beeldhouwer Duane Hanson vindt in het Museum van Elsene
PHOTOREALISM plaats, een tentoonstelling die focust op het hyperrealistische oeuvre van
de Amerikaanse schilders uit de periode 1960- eind jaren 1980. In het kielzog van de popart
belichten of bekritiseren de hyperrealisten de Amerikaanse consumptiemaatschappij. Ze doen
dat in een boeiende, haast fotografische stijl.
Following the success of the 2014 exhibition dedicated to the American hyperrealist sculptor
Duane Hanson, the Museum of Ixelles presents PHOTOREALISM. This exhibition highlights
the generation of hyperrealist painters from the 1960s to the late 1980s. In the aftermath
of Pop Art, the hyperrealists portrayed and criticized the American consumer society in a
fascinating semi-photographic style.

L’exposition mettra en dialogue l’œuvre contemporaine de deux artistes majeurs de l’art moderne
belge : Walter Leblanc et Jef Verheyen. Malgré des effets picturaux très différents, tous deux
consacrent leurs recherches sur les effets d’optique, de couleurs et de lumière à travers la peinture.
Dans le sillage du célèbre Groupe Zéro, groupe international d’art abstrait dans les années 1960,
la mise en lumière sur ces deux artistes sera réalisée en les présentant aux côtés des artistes
internationaux (Fontana, Manzoni, Uecker...).
De tentoonstelling brengt een dialoog tussen het hedendaagse werk van Walter Leblanc en Jef
Verheyen, twee kunstenaars die een hoofdrol spelen op de moderne Belgische kunstscène. Ondanks
een zeer verschillende schilderstijl richten ze hun onderzoek allebei op optische effecten, kleur en
licht. Vanwege hun banden met de beroemde ‘Zerogroep’, een internationale groep van abstracte
kunstenaars uit de jaren 1960, worden hun doeken geconfronteerd met werken van internationaal
befaamde kunstenaars als Fontana, Manzoni, Uecker...
This exhibition presents a dialogue of contemporary works from two major artists of Belgian modern
art: Walter Leblanc and Jef Verheyen. Despite very different pictorial styles, both artists are devoted
to exploring the optical effects of colour and light through the medium of paint. In the wake of the
famous ‘Group Zero’, an international abstract art group from the 1960s, these two artists are highlighted
alongside international artists such as Fontana, Manzoni, Uecker...
