Un des points forts de cette UMR est le regroupement d'équipes ayant des compétences complémentaires autour d’un paradigme commun qui est l’infection parasitologique dans tous ses aspects, de la transmission à la thérapeutique, en prenant en compte les interactions entre le pathogène et les micro (organes des hôtes) et macro (sites de transmission, vecteurs)-environnements. • Equipe 1 : Transmission Dirigée par Sylvie Manguin (coordinatrice) (IRD Montpellier), Stéphane Ranque (APHM) et Renaud Piarroux (APHM), cette équipe se consacre à l’étude de la transmission des maladies parasitaires centrée plutôt sur le paludisme. Sur le plan de la transmission, une approche globale est développée en prenant en compte le rôle déterminant des vecteurs dans la dissémination des agents infectieux. Recherche de répulsifs et d’insecticides pour le contrôle des vecteurs du paludisme et de la dengue. Surveillance spatiale du paludisme. - - • Equipe 2 : Thérapeutique Dirigée par Evelyne Ollivier (Coordinatrice) (UFR Pharmacie Marseille), Nadine Azas (UFR Pharmacie Marseille) et Francisco Veas (IRD, Montpellier), cette équipe se consacre au développement de nouvelles approches pharmacologiques avec l’identification et la caractérisation de nouvelles cibles parasitaires, la recherche de nouveaux antiparasitaires naturels et de synthèse et la mise au point d’alternatives chimioprophylactiques et thérapeutiques.
