EasyCoder® PD41/PD42 Parallel IEEE 1284 Interface Installation Instructions These instructions tell you how to install the Parallel IEEE 1284 Interface Board in a EasyCoder PD41/PD42 printer. The kit includes the following: • Parallel IEEE 1284 Interface Board with I/O Bus Cable Required Tools To install the interface board in your printer, you need these tools: • Screwdriver, slotted • Screwdriver, Phillips Installing the Interface Board Before you begin installation, please acknowledge the following important safety notes: The installation described in this section must only be performed by an authorized service technician. Make sure the printer has been turned off and disconnected from the power supply before you start installation. Take precautions against electrostatic discharge, for example by wearing grounded wrist straps. To install the Parallel IEEE 1284 interface board 1 Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.. 2 Open the side door. Remove the two screws that hold the cover to the electronics compartment. 3 Lay the printer down on its side, with the electronics compartment facing up. 4 Loosen the electronics compartment cover by placing the tip of a slotted screwdriver at the edge of the cover and gently pushing the handle towards the top of the printer. DO NOT attempt to bend it loose. 5 Slide the cover out along the rails and remove it from the printer. 6 Put the printer back in upright position. 7 Remove the small plate that covers the slot for the Parallel board on the back of the printer. Keep the screws. 8 Use the screws that were removed in Step 6 to secure the Parallel board in the slot. Parallel IEEE 1284 interface board 9 Connect the I/O bus cable to the printer main board. 10 Reattach the cover. When you turn on the printer, it automatically recognizes the Parallel IEEE 1284 interface. PD42 users have to activate the interface, see the next section. Activating the Parallel IEEE 1284 Interface (PD42 only) On the PD42 printer, the parallel interface and the USB interface cannot be active at the same time. USB is active by default, so in order to use the parallel interface you must change this setting in Setup. To activate the Parallel IEEE 1284 interface 1 Press Setup ( ). 2 Navigate to Com > Interface. 3 In the Interface submenu, select IEEE 1284. 4 Press Enter ( ).
