It focuses on the treatment of limited natural resources and the necessity of adjustment measures due to climate change. Cities are the main source of global CO2-emissions. Thereby, simultaneously, they have the potential to influence and shape necessary transformation processes and to be the instigator of a sustainable societal development. Every occupant and every building can contribute respectively. Interconnected, they can have a positive influence towards sustainability. Through the consideration of open and green spaces, mobility and infrastructure, innovative models for future sustainable cities are being developed. Our summer school 2014, „adaptive skins – urban structures“, focuses on creating new methods of building for cities of the future. Hereby, intercultural exchange is a vital prerequisite for creative processes. TU Darmstadt and its School of Architecture have, for many years, been intensively engaged in this field. Exemplary among a multitude of projects is the en EnEffCity research project UrbanReNet, the active houses for the Solar Decathlons of 2007 and 2009, or the Efficiency House Plus in Existing Buildings in New Ulm. The long term collaboration with TU Munich, School of Architecture, Unit for Building Climatic and Building Technologies adds to our technological and systematical design competence in terms of developing new approaches for sustainable urban development. contact TU Darmstadt FG Entwerfen und Energieeffizientes Bauen El-Lissitzky-Str. 1 64287 Darmstadt TU Darmstadt, Faculty of Architecture Energy Efficient Building Design Unit Prof. Dipl.-Ing.
