 World Friendship Tulip Helps Refugees in Austria Release to Rotary International, Hotels, C ompanies e tc. Currently there are worldwide a lot of problems with refugees, m igrations, war etc. It is a p ity and a shame that most of the human b eings can’t change this situation. Nevertheless we can h elp this p eople to lighten their very d ifficult situation. Daily thousands of Volunteers and Organizations are working to offer help in their dramatic situation. We, as a company in t rading with Flowerbulbs b rought the idea in which way we can help. Forva couple of y ears we have been p roducing the ‘World Friendship Tulip’ We sell m ini box with 1 Tulip as a Fundraising system to raise money. The boxes ( 20.000 p .) we sell for € 1,00 till € 2,00 / p iece. We sold many tulips. Together with the Red Cross we distributed the p roceeds. We took the costs for the box and the tulip, the work is done by volunteers. So, 100 % of the incoming Euros were made available. In Co-­‐operation with the Austrian Finance Department we a re free of taxes. Leider können die meisten von uns n icht viel ändern an d iese Situation. Jedoch können wir Menschen unterstützen d iese unfreiwillige Situation zu erleichtern. Viele private Personen und Organisationen sind täglich im Einsatz um b ei diese erbärmliche Lebensumstände Hilfe zu bieten. Rotary International hilft in die ganze Welt schon vielen Jahren im Katastrophe Gebieten die humanitäre Not zu ledigen. Dabei sind d ie lokalen Clubs Äußerst wichtig. Unsere Geschäfte m it Blumenzwiebeln haben uns d ie Idee gebracht auf welche Art und Weise wir helfen können. Aktuell gibt e s eine neue Tulpensondersorte, namens ‚ World Friendship Tulip‘. Im Anhang sind einige Bilder zu sehen. Die Tulpe ist Symbol für Frieden und Freundschaft. Wir hoffen, dass möglichst v iele Rotary Clubs diese Tulpe a ls ‚Fundraising‘ verwenden und damit möglichst v iel Geld an d ie Menschen im Not gehen kann. Initiativen hierzu sind endlos zu ersinnen. Wir verteilen d ie Gelder von d en v erkauften Tulpen ohne Gewinn oder zusätzlichen Kosten an karitative Einstellungen, die täglich m it d er Logistik, Pflege und Versorgung im Einsatz sind. Mr Lenard was the breeder for the Inra (French horticultural breeding institute) located in Brest , Bretagne. H e did 35 y ears of b reeding tulips for the Inra. The goal was making d isease hardy varieties for growing bulbs in Northern France and for making f lowers in Southern France. However, in 2000 the Inra d ecided to stop breeding tulips to focus on other crops like potatoes and weeds. Maveridge bought then 1500 varieties from Inra for growing them in Holland. From these 1500 varieties the World Friendship was selected as number 417. Maveridge did plant 5 kilograms of the World Friendship tulip in 2001 and in 2014 they planted 8000 kilograms. From the 1500 varieties around 40 survivors through all the selection criteria and World Friendship is one of them. World Friendship was selected in the f irst place b ecause the nice flower color (beautiful soft shining y ellow) and this in combination with the elegant shape of the flowers and the long strong stems. It survived the selections procedures b ecause the bulb p roduction and d esease hardiness was excellent as well. Now there is grown on a round half a h ectare in Holland and this should increase for 15 % p er year.
