Automobilwirtschaft und Medizin bringen Ungarn auf Touren. Ein neues
Kongresszentrum ist am Start. Hotels punkten mit Bädertradition.
■ Investitionsziel. Mit der 58. Jahrestagung
des Deutschen ReiseVerbandes (DRV) vom 13.
bis 16. November 2008 rückt Ungarns Hauptstadt ihr Meetingpotenzial einmal mehr in den
Fokus. Beliebt ist Ungarn nicht nur bei deutschen Touristikern, sondern auch bei der Automobilindustrie. In ihrem neuen Werk in Ungarn wird Daimler 2.500 Arbeitsplätze schaffen. Qualifiziertes Personal und günstige Lohnkosten – ein Viertel unter den deutschen
– bewogen auch Audi zum Bau eines Motorenwerkes mit 900 Beschäftigten in Ungarn.
Während die Automobilisten die Fertigstellung der Autobahn M7 bis fast an die kroatische Grenze erfreut, bietet National Carrier
Malév Hungarian Airlines Direktflüge ab Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, München und Stuttgart. Seit dem 28. Juli 2008 offeriert das Airport Hotel Budapest Tagungsmöglichkeiten für
bis zu 360 Personen und 112 Zimmer.
Budapest liegt im ICCA-Ranking 2007 gemeinsam mit Lissabon auf Platz sechs der Kongressstädte. Für Meetinganlässe sorgen die Autoindustrie und die Medizin. Die Expertise ungarischer Fakultäten holt Kongresse wie vom
10. bis 13. September 2008 den 11. Weltkongress der Internationalen Gesellschaft für Ösophagus-Erkrankungen, eine Woche später vom
21. bis 23. September 2008 das 10. Internationale Symposium zu Thrombolyse und akuter
Schlaganfalltherapie ins Land.

tionalen Epilepsie-Kongresses vom 28. Juni bis
2. Juli 2009. Auf dem 36 ha großen HungexpoGelände mit 60.000 qm wurden zudem die Pavillons A und D renoviert und Pavillon C umgebaut. Renovierungsmaßnahmen sind auch für
das am Gelände angesiedelte Hotel geplant,
für das ein neuer Betreiber gesucht wird.
Ein umfangreiches Investitionsprojekt ist
die Dornhalle, die 2009 als neues Konferenzzentrum für bis zu 4.000 Personen eröffnen
soll. Das größte Raumangebot hat derzeit das
Budapest Congress & World Trade Centre mit
18 Räumen und Plenum für 2.000 Personen.

und neun renovierte Räume für 300 Personen.

600 Zimmer und 650 Plenarplätze machen das

Motor for congresses
Another extensive investment project is the Dornhalle in the
11th district, which will open in 2009 as a new conference
centre for up to 4,000 people. The largest capacity at
present is provided by the Budapest Congress & World Trade
Centre with 18 meetings rooms and a plenary for 2,000
people. All facilities are listed by the Meeting Planners
Guide under the title of “Where meetings meet traditions”.

by the Danubius brand, which operates 13 sites in Hungary.

Their flagship is the Danubius Health Spa Resort Margitsziget on Margaret island in the Donau. The building has
267 rooms and nine renovated meeting rooms for up to 300 people. Next door is the
Danubius Grand Hotel Margitsziget, which looks back on 130 years of tradition and features
164 rooms and a plenary for 110 participants. The Danubius Hotel Gellért with its famous
Jugendstil baths resides in a class of its own. It boasts 221 rooms, 13 apartments and seven
conference rooms for up to 240 people.
The Hilton Budapest is likewise operated by Danubius. The prominent location in the historical
castle quarter, the view over the Donau as well as the 600 rooms and a plenary for 650 make
the hotel into a favourite among planners. On the Pest side of the Donau there is the 5 star
Hilton Budapest WestEnd in the city centre, with 250 rooms and 350 plenary capacity.

■ Investment goals. With the 50th annual assembly of the German Travel Association from
13 to 16 November 2008 Hungary’s capital is showing its meetings potential. Hungary is not
just popular among tourist industry pros, but also among the automobile industry. Daimler
has invested 800 million Euros in a new plant, bringing 2,500 new jobs to Hungary. While the
automobile industry looks forward to the completion of the M7 motorway, stretching almost all
the way to the Croatian border, Malev Hungarian Airlines flies direct from Berlin, Frankfurt,
Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart. Since July the Airport Hotel Budapest offers meeting facilities
for up to 360 people. The ICCA Ranking 2007 rates Budapest sixth among the congress cities.
Occasions for meetings are generated by the car industry, but also medicine. The expertise of
Hungarian medical faculties attracts medical congresses, e.g. the 11th World Congress of the
International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus from 10 to 13 September 2008.
Hungexpo with its newly erected Pavilion G for up to 5,000 people, hosts the 28th International Epilepsy Congress 2009. The 36 hectare large Hungexpo fairground with 60,000 sq. m.
has moreover had its Pavilions A and D renovated and Pavilion C rebuilt. Renovation measures
are also planned for the hotel located on the grounds; a new operator is being sought for it.
