Legal Name of Organization: The Art Gallery of Sudbury

The Art Gallery of Sudbury is committed to providing access to, and understanding, knowledge and
appreciation of the visual arts. The Gallery is dedicated to achieving excellence in all activities, including the
collection, exhibition, preservation and promotion of art for the community of Greater Sudbury. The AGS
manages, as a municipal and regional public art gallery and places strong emphasis on local artists while
entering the community into a national dialogue. The Gallery's multiple roles in the immediate community and
beyond include exhibition venue, education centre, research facility and public forum. Programs and projects
are developed with careful attention to current visual art discourse found locally and internationally.

The Blue Saints Booster Club provides music and movement education in cooperation with school music
education programs. The education enhances the student's overall music education by building self-esteem,

for many community activities that require band music.

Dragonboat Festival is organized for participants and spectators alike with the assistance of CHANO.

Cinéfest Sudbury organizes and promotes an annual festival of highly acclaimed Canadian and world films, as

public awareness of the aesthetic arts and their importance to improving human condition while advancing a
greater understanding and harmony between nations, races and religions.

The Irish Arts Association provides performances of an artistic nature at various locations and seminars on
topics related to their performances. Since its inception the organization has produced 23 Irish Celtic fairs, ran
a variety of weekly programs, large community shows and performed in countless venues.

Company g Performers is a group of young people who perform in every discipline ranging from tap, ballet,
modern, lyrical, hip/hop and more. The mandate of the group is to perform within our community, to help raise
money for out of town competitions, productions, consuming, accommodations, workshops. The goal is to
build a strong core group of young individuals and increase their self-esteem and confidence in preparing them
for future endeavors in their career choices.

Funding Request: Project/Special Event for the annual Chelmsford Fiddle & Stepdance Festival and 10th
Anniversary celebration.
Fiddleworks exists to promote year-round fiddle and stepdance which includes the annual "Chelmsford Fiddle
& Stepdance Festival" in May of each year. The organization also preserves and promotes Canadian music
and dance heritage and provides leadership by encouraging younger citizens to participate.

The Finnish Canadian Grand Festival is showcased in Sudbury this year and is a culmination of 21 Sudbury
organizations from the Finnish community working together to organize the festival. The festival promotes and
showcases local talent including all age groups and introduces residents to Finnish culture. The festival
attracts many out of town visitors.

Funding Request: Project-for organizing and promoting a concert series.
5-Penny New Music Concerts promotes and organizes concerts, lectures, workshops and seminars in
twentieth and twenty-first century music in the City of Greater Sudbury. The organization does this through the
promotion of recent compositions written by Canadian and international composers, and classic repertoire of
the twentieth century, and by educating and increasing the public's understanding and appreciation of the
twentieth and twenty-first centuries music.

The Greater Sudbury Celtic Festival and Highland Games is an emerging event in Greater Sudbury that
celebrates the city's Scottish and Irish communities. The goal is to celebrate and promote the Celtic Heritage in
Sudbury and Northern Ontario by offering cultural programming such as the Scottish Heavy Games and Tugof-War, music and dance performances, food fair, workshops and lectures.

Funding Request: Special Event- For youth festival featuring East Indian Dance and music, East Indian

The India-Canada Association of Sudbury promotes and preserves East Indian culture and heritage and
provides assistance to new comers from India. The organization's mandate is carried through by the promotion
of youth volunteerism and community participation in fundraising events while developing and fostering
community spirit among its members.

Funding Request: Project/Special Event- For two projects, (1) Irish dance workshop and (2) Annual
Community Spudfest
The Irish Club was formed to unite fraternally and to promote the mutual interest of the club members, to
ensure the continuance of an Irish Heritage in the Sudbury area and to aid and assist people in need. This is
accomplished through participation in community and cultural events.

The Jubilee Folk Ensemble Advisory Board exists to support, encourage and promote the performance of

Myths and Mirrors goal is to educate and promote the public's participation in the arts by developing and

engaging residents in the creation of art works that explore modern myths and reflect perceptions and
experience. The vision is to work with people to create innovative experimental art, to engender a sense of
community identity, to challenge the culture industry's concept of art and culture, and to provide a forum for the
marginalized to develop a voice.

Funding Request: Equipment – For risers, sound system additions, training and development
Nickel City Sound is a vibrant organization of women who are dedicated to the teaching, performance,
promotion and preservation of 4-part a cappella harmony sung in the barbershop style. This is carried through
with performances, the celebration of friendship, personal growth and development through music and
leadership, education and the practice of democratic principles.

NISA offers programming and space to individuals living with mental illness so that they can identify their talent
and discover occupational opportunities. This is done by introducing individuals to the benefits of selfexpression through the arts to overcome disabilities and personal challenges and providing access to materials
and resources for artistic endeavours.

The Northern Artist Gallery increases public awareness of visual arts and craft activities in Northern

organization contributes to the development of creative communities in visual arts and crafts and thereby
contributes to the cultural and economic well being of the Northern communities in which the artists and
craftspeople live.

The No Strings Attached Community Band offers the opportunity for local, amateur musicians in Sudbury, of all
ages, to perform in a full concert band ensemble. The group offers a unique performance perspective to the
Sudbury arts community through novel repertoire and mandate. Wind instrument education and promotion is
also part of the band's mission.

Funding Request: Project- Portable facilities for Quilts on the Rocks display
Quilts on the Rocks, as part of the Sudbury & District Quilting and Stitchery Guild, sponsors an exhibit of works
of the members every three years to draw quilters and stitchers from across Northern Ontario. The Quilts on
the Rocks exhibit showcases the work of local guild members in the quilting and stitchery arts including
traditional, centemporary and art quilts and needlework techniques including hardanger, pulled thread, crossstitch, needlepoint, petitpoint, redwork, embroidery, canvas work and other fibre arts.

The Rayside-Balfour Whitewater Brush & Palette Art Club fosters learning and appreciation of art in all its
forms, through informal forums in the form of group instruction by a lead artist and supporting various art
medium activities. The programming is open to students of all ages and the venues are proud to support the
transfer of knowledge and skills in the areas of arts.

Silver Birch Concerts, based around the Silver Birch Quartet, offers concert presentations in the chamber
music genre. Silver Birch Concerts, as a fairly new organization is committed to expanding their audience base
through innovative programming and ensuring the development of an educated audience for the future of
classical music in the City of Greater Sudbury, and beyond.

The role of the Sudbury Arts Council is to promote and support the arts in the City of Greater Sudbury and
Northeastern Ontario area. SAC acts as a resource structure to promote an awareness of the arts, and the arts
organizations in the Sudbury region, while encouraging the development of arts and cultural projects and
activities, and artistic excellence.

The mandate of Sudbury Basin Potters is to promote and nurture the art of pottery in the City of Greater
Sudbury and surrounding areas. They offer classes twice a year to the community and participate in a major
event called the annual “Soup’s On”.

The Sudbury Chamber Singers provide a venue for local citizens, both to learn to sing and appreciate chamber
music, from the renaissance to contemporary, in both secular and sacred traditions. Performances occur twice
a year, and various community groups and local musicians participate and perform as guest artists. The
organization also offers an extensive lending library to local community choirs.

The Sudbury Craft and Arts Foundation promotes and supports regional artists and crafts people through

educational component. A variety of techniques are involved in the production of their work.

The Sudbury Multicultural and Folk Arts Association’s mission is to ensure equal access and opportunity for

mutual respect and understanding of one another. The organization provides a wide variety of services to
individuals and heritage groups, and provides the means for the Canada Day celebrations at the Sudbury
Arena.

Theatre Cambrian provides the people of the City of Greater Sudbury a theatrical showcase in which to

opportunities for the enhancement of the cultural and artistic life of people in Greater Sudbury, and provides
performing artists and production technicians a venue to hone their skills.

Funding Request: Special Event- Support for the annual Original Canadian Garlic Festival
The Ukrainian Seniors Citizens Club of Sudbury promotes healthy living and involvement in social, cultural,
recreational and charitable activities in a Ukrainian ambiance. Special events and workshops are targeted to
the entire community both young and old. For the past 16 years the Garlic Festival has provided a venue for
local talent to entertain the community.

The Valley Community Theatre Communautaire De La Vallee Inc. exists to improve the quality of life in the
community by fostering an appreciation for theatre. This is realized by providing the City of Greater Sudbury
residents with the opportunity to showcase and develop their talents, while fostering respect among the
generations through working together.

Funding Request: Special Event/Equipment- To help advertise 2 major shows, arena rental, equipment
maintenance and children’s event.
The Walden Art Club works to encourage proficiency in the visual arts; to promote art appreciation in the
community; to maintain membership in the Northern Ontario Arts Association and Sudbury Arts Council; to
continue operating as not-for-profit and to assist other arts/cultural organizations in the Region.

The Young Sudbury Singers exists to provide children and youth between 7-17 years of age with the

out to different generations, educational institutions, individual musicians, musical groups, and other genres of
artistic expression through live and television performances.
