Question
If I start a dSPACE setup program, the InstallShield wizard error message ‘Setup has
experienced an error’ is displayed with one of the following error codes.
Solution
Error code -5004/-6002
The InstallShield error code -5004 indicates that the setup was not started with full administrator rights.
The Windows User Account Control (UAC) is likely activated on the system. It improves the security of
Microsoft Windows by limiting application software to standard user privileges until an administrator
authorizes an increase or elevation. This means a user account might have administrator privileges
assigned to it, but applications that the user runs do not inherit those privileges unless they are
approved beforehand or the user explicitly authorizes them.
To authorize the setup explicitly with administrator privileges click the setup file with the right mousekey and select "Run as Administrator"
Error code -6001
Most likely, invalid files in the InstallShield installation directory cause this error.
Delete the complete InstallShield folder to re-initialize the InstallShield engine.
32-bit operating system:
C:\program files\common files\InstallShield
64-bit operating system:
C:\program files(x86)\common files\InstallShield
Then, execute the dSPACE setup again. During the initialization of InstallShield, the folder is created
again automatically.
