Find out about cafés – the heart of French
life, where people rev up in the morning,
unwind during the day, meet friends, keep
in touch with what’s going on and, of
course, have a drink.
French Steps
Talk French is repeated regularly on BBC
Learning Zone (BBC Two). Check out the
details on www.bbc.co.uk/learningzone and
video the programmes to watch at your
leisure.
Talk French: Enjoy your meal!
Stage 1: Getting a snack.
Follow Hakim in France as he asks people what
sort of things they like to eat mid-morning. Watch
the slideshow then have a go at the activities.
Focus on selected clips from the TV programme,
try out the activities then check your progress.
Learning hint
When you go to a café or bar in the UK, have a look at the items on the menu
to see first if any of them are in French and then how many of the English
ones you know the French words for. Then figure out what typical French
items are not on the list.
