King Baldwin Rest and Care Home
King Baldwin Rest and Care Home Brussels Belgium P 1/2 © F.Mainil Extension of two 15-bed units for persons suffering from Alzheimer’s. Site: This project is situated in a residential neighbourhood in Woluwe Saint-Pierre. Two types of urban settings different in nature and scope are side by side. The place chosen to host the project hinges between the two types of setting. The top of the site, at the Clos des Chasseurs, corresponds to the level of the first floor of the home (main entrance level). The bottom part of the site, on the Val des Epinettes, corresponds to the ground floor level. Organising the link to the neighbourhood: The basic option of the project consists of integrating the two units in the residential neighbourhood. The building is composed of four volumes similar in size to those of Boulevard du Souverain 360/B7 B - 1160 Brussels the groups of houses in the garden city. These volumes are organised round a common garden and thus encompass the block. Level management: The building is aligned with the size of the neighbouring houses without exceeding the cornice level. A parking facility for about 25 cars occupies the basement. This surface can also be used for logistics. The ground floor comprises a ward for disoriented persons with 15 beds and is organised round a garden. On the first floor, a similar unit is installed on the same level as the Clos des Chasseurs. A walkway links the existing rest home with the new units.
