FICHE DESCRIPTIVE D’UN MODULE DE FORMATION 14-E387-06 STRUCTURAL METHODS FOR BIOLOGICAL MACROMOLECULES - Cours internationale en visioconférence PROCHAINE SESSION : Février-Mars 2013 Atelier Approfondissement Durée : 5.0 jours 1 sessions/ an Organisation : ED 387 Inter///Bio 5 places/session Contact email : [email protected] ; [email protected] Recommandé en 1re 2e 3e année Objectifs The main objective of this course is to teach methods applicable to study biological macromolécules. We aim at a compréhensive coverage of the field including major structural and biophysical techniques employed for the characterization of high and low resolution structure, structural transition, macromolecular formations and interaction with small molecules. In this course, students will study a wide range of problems from a structural and mechanistic perspective using a range of structural biology methods including cryo-electron microscopy, mass spec, x-ray crystallography and drug design. Contenu et méthode The course provide innovative and ambitious teaching programs. It will be delivered and monitored simultaneously at the Antwerp University (Belgium) and at the UPMC and will include lectures on : • Cryo-electron microscopy combined with image analysis • Mass spectrometry • X-ray crystallography and modelling • Drug design These biophysical foundations will be applied to biological topics medically important, with the view to developing new drugs. The course will be mostly. Language: English, reference material in english. Course session: february and march. Teaching schedule: classes will be given over 2 months (february and march). The course will be delivered in real time in Paris and Antwerp using videoconferencing. All the course notes and material will be in English, the course and reference materials will be available well in advance and posted on the course website. - Tentative schedule for the university year 2012-2013: 4th, 5th and 6th february (mass spectrometry), 18th, 19th and 20th february (electron cryo-microscopy), 4th, 5th and 6th march (Xray crystalligraphy and drug design) and 18th march (macromolecular model building).
