Objectifs pédagogiques du cours :
This course will use multi-media to support teaching, allowing for interactive teaching and learning. Students will be
provided with input on the topic but at the same time they will be encouraged to develop their analytic capacity and to
prepare and complement topics through personal study.
Contenu / descriptif du cours :
This lecture aims to provide a grounding in the contemporary history of the Mediterranean and the Middle East, both
highly geostrategic areas at the crossings of different histories, civilizations and religions. Special attention will be
given to the Cold War, decolonization and the failure of democracy in North Africa. The Arab-Israeli conflict and the
rise of Turkey as a new regional power are further topics. The class ends with an analysis of the Arab Spring.
