Tokyo. Une poupée gonflable habite l’appartement sordide d’un
homme d’une quarantaine d’années. Elle ne peut ni parler, ni bouger,
mais elle est la seule compagne de son propriétaire. Il lui parle, prend
son bain avec elle et lui fait l’amour chaque soir, en rentrant du travail.
Mais un jour, le fantasme devient réalité : la poupée prend vie et développe des sentiments humains. Comme un nouveau-né, elle
découvre un monde inconnu qu’elle aspire à comprendre.
Elle s’aventure alors dans les rues de la ville, fascinée par tout ce
qu’elle voit, mais les gens qu’elle rencontre sont incapables de lui
expliquer ce que veut dire « être en vie »... C’est en poussant la porte
d’un vidéoclub qu’elle obtient enfin une réponse : elle fait la connaissance de Junichi, le vendeur, et tombe aussitôt amoureuse de lui. La
poupée est embauchée au magasin et noue chaque jour des liens de
plus en plus forts avec Junichi : ils vont ensemble au cinéma et sillonnent la ville ... comme un couple.
Tokyo. An inflatable doll lives in the sordid flat of a man who is in his
forties. She can neither talk nor move, but she is her owner’s sole
companion. He talks to her, takes his bath with her and makes love to
her every night after coming back from work. Yet, one day phantasm
becomes true: the doll becomes alive and develops human feelings.
Just as a new-born baby, she faces an unknown world she yearns to
discover.
She then ventures in the streets of the city, fascinated by all that she
can see, but the people she meets are unable to explain to her what ‘to
be alive’ means… She finds the answer when she enters a video club
where she meets Junichi, the shopkeeper with whom she falls in love
at once. The doll now works in the shop where she tightens her bonds
with Junichi every day: they go and see movies and wander in the
city …like a couple.

Un couple ayant perdu un enfant en bas âge est visité chaque jour par
un petit garçon de huit ans. Est-ce un fantôme? La réincarnation de
leur fils ? Alors que les deux parents s'attachent à lui, il disparait soudainement, les laissant seuls avec leur douleur. Adapté d'une nouvelle
fantastique de Murou Saisei, le film a été réalisé dans le cadre de la
série télévisée Ayashiki Bungô Kaidan (Kaidan - Horror Classics) diffusée sur les ondes de NHK.
Every day, an eight-year-old boy comes to see a couple who lost their
infant. Is he a ghost? Is he their son’s reincarnation? While the two
parents get attached to him, he suddenly disappears, leaving them
alone with their pain. Adapted from a fantasy short story by Murou
Saisei, the film was produced in the framework of TV serial Ayashiki
Bungô Kaidan (Kaidan - Horror Classics) and was broadcast by
NHK.
