Momotaro (L’enfant-pêche)
Il était une fois un vieil homme et une vieille femme. Ils habitaient dans un petit village. Un jour,
le vieil homme va dans la montagne pour ramasser des branches, et la vieille femme se rend à la
rivière pour faire la lessive.
En faisant la lessive, elle voit une grosse pêche flotter sur la rivière. Elle est très étonnée, mais elle
ramasse la pêche et la rapporte chez elle. Le vieil homme coupe la pêche, et un petit bébé apparaît.
Les deux époux l’appellent Momotaro et l’élèvent avec beaucoup d’amour et de soin. Momotaro
grandit et devient un garçon robuste. Depuis quelques temps, les ogres de l’île d’Onigashima
venaient souvent attaquer le village. Les gens du village avaient peur d’eux. Ainsi, Momotaro décide
d’aller sur l’île d’Onigashima pour combattre les ogres. Avant qu’il parte, la vieille femme fait des
kibidango1 et les lui donne.
En marchant vers l’île d’Onigashima, Momotaro rencontre un chien, un singe et un faisan. Il leur
dit : Aidez-moi à combattre les ogres, s’il vous plaît. » Ils lui répondent : « Si vous nous donnez vos
délicieux kibidango, nous vous aiderons. » Ainsi, Momotaro leur donne ses kibidango, et ils le
suivent. Finalement, l’équipe de Momotaro arrive à l’île d’Onigashima, et elle réussit brillamment à
vaincre les ogres ! Momotaro et ses amis acquièrent tous les trésors de l’île d’Onigashima et
reviennent à leur village. Et depuis ce jour-là, tous les gens du village vivent heureux.
Momotaro
Once upon a time, an old man and a woman lived in a small village. One day, the old man went
into a mountain to gather firewood and the old woman went to a river to wash clothes.
When she was washing, she noticed a big peach float in the river. She was very surprised. Then
she picked it up and she took it home. When the old man cut the peach... a small baby appeared
(came out of it). They named him Momotaro and brought him up with much love and care.
Momotaro grew up to be a strong boy. In those days, ogres living in Onigashima would often come
and attack the village. The villagers were worried about them. So Momotaro decided to go to
Onigashima to fight against ogres. Before he left, the old woman made kibidango and gave it to
Momotaro.
On his way to the Onigashima, he met a dog, a monkey and a pheasant. ''Please help me defeat
ogres !'' Momotaro said to them. They responded (replied), ''If you give us your delicious kibidango,
we'll help you.'' Then Momotaro gave kibidango to them and they followed him. Finally, Momotaro's
party reached Onigashima. And they excellently (admirably) succeeded in defeating ogres ! They
took all treasures in Onigashima back to his village and all the villagers lived happily ever after.
