CHANTAL DIONNE, soprano
Prizewinner at the Montreal International Music Competition in 2005, the Canadian soprano distinguished herself in Italy the
same year winning 1st prize, the public prize and the best foreign singer at the 56th Gian Battista Viotti International Competition.
Her first recording of Rachmaninoff and Liszt songs Romances with pianist Louise-Andrée Baril received international acclaim.
Recent performances for Ms Dionne include the roles of Françoise in the lyric version of the French-Canadian work “Nelligan”
by André Gagnon and Michel Tremblay at the Québec Opera Festival. A reviewer wrote about her performance « she plays her
role to perfection, the voice is powerful and she brings a touch of emotion to this dramatic piece ». Earlier this summer, we heard
Chantal in the title role of Adina in the opera “Elisir d’amore” by Donizetti at Montreal’s Italian Week celebration. Most
recently she sang the soprano solo in Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with the Montreal Philharmonic Orchestra – a reviewer wrote
« From the Kyrie to the Agnus Dei, the Canadian soprano demonstrated agility and remarquable vocal sensibility ». In Europe,
she sang the soprano solo in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony for the Association Artistique des Concerts Colonne in Paris.
Ms Dionne has received much acclaim for her performances in roles such as Micaëla in Carmen by Bizet (Limoges Opera,
France), Pamina in Die Zauberflöte by Mozart (Volksoper, Vienna), Véronique in Véronique by Messager (Metz Opera,
France), Donna Anna in Don Giovanni by Mozart (Lombardo Circuito Lirico, Italy) and Marguerite in Faust by Gounod
(Vermont and Quebec).
Ms Dionne has a wide range of repertoire from songs to lieder, opera to oratorio and symphonic poems. She has performed with
many symphonic orchestras such as Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Metropolitain Orchestra of Montreal, Orquesta de Nuevo
Mundo (Mexico), Moscow Symphony Orchestra and Teatro Regio de Turin Orchestra to name a few.
Upcoming performances include a solo recital in the Topaze Series for the ProMusica society’s 2012-2013 season in Montréal.
Lauréate au Concours Musical International de Montréal 2005, le soprano canadien Chantal Dionne a également remporté un
triple triomphe en Italie au 56e Concours International Gian Battista Viotti : 1er Prix, Prix du Public, Prix Associazione Teatro
d’Opera pour le meilleur candidat étranger.
Son premier disque-récital, Romances, avec la pianiste Louise-Andrée Baril est un succès international. «Chantal Dionne,

Tout récemment, nous avons pu entendre Chantal Dionne dans le rôle de Françoise dans une version lyrique de Nelligan
d’André Gagnon / Michel Tremblay au Festival Opéra de Québec. La critique dit de sa performance qu’elle maîtrise son rôle à la
perfection, que la voix est puissante et que le personnage bien saisi tout en apportant une émotion. Nous avons également pu
l’entendre dans le rôle d’Adina dans l’opéra Elisir d’amore de Donizetti dans le cadre de la Semaine Italienne à Montréal.
Egalement, nous avons entendu Mme Dionne dans la Messe Solennelle de Beethoven avec l’Orchestre Philarmonique de
Montréal. La critique parle de sa prestation comme ayant été remarquable. « Du Kyrie à l’Agnus Dei, la soprano québécoise a
démontré une agilité et une sensibilité vocale remarquables et a su animer les multiples ensembles ». Elle a aussi chanté le solo
pour soprano dans la Symphonie no.9 de Beethoven, pour l'Association Artistique des Concerts Colonne à Paris.
A l’opéra, elle a obtenu des éloges pour ses performances dans les rôles de Micaëla dans Carmen de Bizet ainsi que de
Véronique dans Véronique de Messsager à l’Opéra de Limoges et l’Opéra de Metz en France, également pour le rôle de Pamina
dans Die Zauberflöte de Mozart au Volksoper de Vienne ainsi que pour son interprétation de Marguerite de Faust de Gounod
au Vermont et au Québec.
Que ce soit en récital ou en concert, son répertoire varie entre la mélodie, l’opéra et l’oratorio. Elle se produit fréquemment avec
orchestre, dont l’Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, l’Orchestre Métropolitain, l’Orchestre Symphonique de Québec,
l’Orquesta del Nuevo Mundo (Mexico City), l’Orchestre Symphonique de Moscou ainsi que l’Orchestra del Teatro Regio de
Turin.
Prochainement, nous pourrons entendre Chantal lors d’un récital solo dans la série Topaze de la Société de musique Pro Musica,
saison 2012-2013.
