Corsican music, mostly polyphonic, is a part of the identity and the Corsican island culture known
through France and even Europe.

I Muvrini, small sheep in Corsican, is a Corsican music group created by Alain and Jean François
Bernardini in the late 70s. They were introduced young to Corsican traditional music by their
father Ghjuliu who was a well-known Corsican poet and singer.
They began singing songs in a Corsican traditional style (guitar and voice polyphony), the group
gradually opened to world music and variety. In particular, they expanded their orchestration with
instruments such as the hurdy-gurdy and bagpipes that have long been used by the group from
the beginning until the late 90s.
Literally “the Corsican people sing” but as explained by one of the oldest members Célé Buteau, it
means “here is what sings the Corsican people” is a group of Corsican music.
The group founded in 1973 is the revival of singing in Corsican language from the 70s, songs are
alike traditional songs: paghjelle, lamenti…
Their first goal was to be a testimony of the old songs sang in villages by
the people, to preserve these songs. Soon came the creations of the groups
with sometimes political songs which testified the band’s commitment in
the quest of the Corsican independence. (Particularly in the late 70s and in
the late 80s.)
But always with the ambition to save, protect and promote the values, the language and the
Corsican culture.
