Lopresidió elReverendoJ.H.Barrows.SwamiVivekanandaseenteró del eventoyconelpermisoybeneplá citodeSaradaDevi,esposadeSriRamakrisha,su maestro,decidió asistir.Salió deBombayel31demayode1893yllegó aVancouver3 mesesantesdelcomienzodelevento,sinningunacredencialqueleacreditasecomo representanteoficialdeningunareligió n.Recorrió Amé ricacomocaminante,vestido de amarillo y con turbante. En Boston conoció a un profesor de la universidad de Harvard,Mr.Wrightquienlopresentó asuamigopersonal,elReverendoBarrows, dicié ndolequeeramasinstruidoquetodoslosprofesoresdeHarvardpuestosjuntos. El parlamento inició sesiones el 11 de Septiembre con representantes de todas las religiones y má s de 4,000 personas en el auditorio. Uno a uno, los representantesdelasreligionesfueronleyendolosdiscursosquehabıánpreparado. ItwaspresidedbytheReverendJ.H.Barrows.SwamiVivekanandaheardaboutthe eventandwiththepermissionandblessingofSaradaDevi,WifeofSriRamakrishna, hismaster,hedecidedtogo.HeleftIndiafromMumbayonMay31standarrivedto Vancouver three months before the beginning of the event, with no credential to accredit him as a representative of any religion whatsoever. He walked through America,dressedinyellowandwithaturban.InBostonhemetaHarvardprofessor, Mr.Wright,whointroducedhimtohispersonalfriend,rev.Barrows,statingthatthe SwamiwasmorelearnedthatalloftheHarvardProfessorsputtogether.
