Le Versant
Blanc
Chardonnay
Robe jaune pâle aux reflets verts. Nez aromatique de fleurs
blanches, de miel et de fruits mûrs. Bouche riche, racée et
très subtile. / This is a real ABC – ‘Absolutely Brilliant Chardonnay’
with a bright yellow gold hue and seductive scents of blossom and
cinnamon spice. Things become even more interesting on the
palate thanks to its remarkable melange of pears, peach, honey
toffee, cream and vanilla (from a short spell of oak ageing). The
whole ensemble is beautifully balanced with ripeness, acidity,
length and real structure.

La marque le Versant est née il y a quelques années dans
l’idée de créer des vins modernes aux profils aromatiques
qui puissent séduire le plus grand nombre et être adaptés à
tout type de moment de dégustation.
Pour créer ces profils, les vignerons des Vignobles Foncalieu
ont uni leur expérience et leur savoir-faire, par la mise en
place d’un projet agronomique exigeant et une sélection
parcellaire rigoureuse dans des zones géographiques de
coteaux ensoleillés. Les zones de coteaux ensoleillés ont
été choisies pour rechercher des maturités spécifiques afin
de créer des vins de cépages aromatiques et élégants.
Le Versant was born a few years ago with the idea of creating
modern wines with aromatic profiles to please the broadest
audience and suit every type of consumption.
To create these profiles, the winegrowers of Les Vignobles
Foncalieu pooled all their know-how and experience to set up
an ambitious project based on strict plot selection on hillsides
in some of our lesser-known geographical areas. The choice of
these “coteaux ensoleillés” was made intentionally to get specific
ripeness levels and create aromatic, elegant varietal wines.
Sauvignon
Robe, beau jaune pâle aux reflets verts. Nez intense aux
arômes d’agrumes et de fruits mûrs. Bouche très agréable,
vive et délicate. / Benchmark Sauvignon Blanc with punchy
crystalline gooseberry and nectarine aromas. On the palate, this
unoaked white is pure, precise, fresh and vivacious. Made in a
modern, contemporary style it possesses a tingling acidity and lots
of sweet gooseberry fruit with notes of citrus, nettles, grass and a
touch of tropical fruit. With its medium structure and long finish, this
is excellent as an aperitif but also works very well with a range of
savoury dishes including chicken, seafood and salad.
Viognier
Robe brillante aux reflets verts. Nez intense d’abricot, de
rose et d’acacia. Bouche puissante avec un bon équilibre
et une persistance aromatique remarquable. / Enticing
honeysuckle and peach aromatics follow seamlessly through
onto the palate where there are yet more flavours of ripe melon,
apricots, spice, honey and acacia – not to mention notes of cream,
vanilla and oatmeal. This brilliantly delicious and complex wine
also comes equipped with weight, structure and an ‘à point’ acidity.

Grenache Rosé
Robe rosé pâle - dragée. Le nez est délicat et savoureusement
parfumé et sucré. La bouche se montre douce, savoureuse. / An
exceptionally good modern rose decked out in delightful salmon
pink and offering oodles of aromatic charm. This is juicy, crisp
and summery with notes of strawberries and cream and a hint of
redcurrants. There’s also a well-crafted structure to the wine and
a savoury dryness which offsets the fruit sweetness to perfection.
It is perfect for summer sipping but has more than enough weight
and gravitas to go with food – at any time of the year.
Cabernet Sauvignon
Robe grenat profond. Nez puissant et aromatique de fruits rouges,
auxquels se mêlent des notes de réglisse. Bouche généreuse et
pourvue de tanins ronds. / Deep and bright in colour with youthful
purple hues, this Cabernet comes well equipped with rippling
black cherry and crunchy cassis fruit alongside flavours of violets,
mocha and savoury coffee bean. The acidity is vibrant and fresh
and neatly juxtaposes the soft elegant tannins and medium body.
Best of all, there’s lots of cabernet ‘typicity’ in this well-crafted and
extremely enjoyable wine.
Merlot
Robe, beau rouge rubis. Nez dégageant des arômes de fruits
rouges auxquels se mêlent des touches boisées et des notes
de tabac. Bouche agréable, ronde et souple à la fois. / This is
textbook, dark-hued, modern young Merlot with a leafy nose and
plenty of more-ish sweet blackberry and cherry fruit on the palate.
The acidity is perky and bright, while the tannins are soft and
gentle. Well-structured and ripe, there’s a satisfyingly long coffeeinfused finish. Beautifully balanced and impressively complex.
Syrah
Robe rouge franc et profond. Nez présentant des arômes de
petits fruits rouges écrasés mêlant des notes épicées et fumées.
Bouche ample et soyeuse, avec un final agréablement fruité. /
Brimming with deep youthful colour, this sumptuous Syrah has a
heady and exotic nose of plums and violets. On the palate are
sweet blackberries, liquorice, smoke and minerals with lovely lift
and plush accessible tannins. It’s broad, generous and retains
terrific poise and freshness. A real ‘vin de plaisir’, hat has power,
personality and charm.

Pinot Noir
Au nez, des aromes de cerises noires et d’élégantes notes florales.
Une bouche soyeuse, bien équilibrée, avec des tannins ronds. /
Good authentic Pinot Noir under £10 a bottle is tough to find these
days. But fortunately, there are exceptions to the rule and this is
perfect case in point. The wine is a touch darker than some and
offers up a touch of Pinot perfume on the nose. On the palate, the
spectrum is more towards black rather than red fruits with a hint of
cola and sweet pastilles. There’s also a delightfully subtle echo of
oak aging which doesn’t overpower the fruit or the delicate tannic
structure. The result is a stylish and contemporary Pinot Noir that
delivers lots of bang for its buck.
