USAID WA-WASH LANCE SES ACTIVITES
DE PROMOTION DE L’HYGIENE ET DE L’ASSAINISSEMENT
DANS TROIS REGIONS AU BURKINA FASO
USAID WA-WASH LAUNCHES SANITATION
AND HYGIENE PROMOTION ACTIVITIES
IN THREE REGIONS OF BURKINA FASO
Le lundi 11 août 2014, le programme USAID WA-WASH a
procédé au lancement officiel d’une activité
d’accompagnement des communautés pour la promotion
de l’hygiène et de l’assainissement dans 30 villages des
régions du Centre, Centre-Ouest et de la Boucle du
Mouhoun au Burkina Faso. La cérémonie a eu lieu dans la
commune rurale de Komki-Ipala dans la région du Centre.
On Monday, August 11, 2014, the USAID WA-WASH Program
officially launched an activity to support communities to
promote hygiene and sanitation in 30 villages in the Centre,
Centre-Ouest and the Boucle du Mouhoun regions of Burkina
Faso. The ceremony took place in the rural commune of
Komki-Ipala in the Centre region.
Au Burkina Faso, le taux d’accès à l’assainissement en
milieu rural varie de 1 à 6%. Vu l’importance de ces services
pour le bien-être des populations, le gouvernement
américain s’est engagé (à travers le programme USAID WAWASH) à accompagner le Burkina Faso pour accroître le
taux d’accès à l’assainissement. En effet, selon M. Jim
Parys, Directeur du bureau de l’USAID au Burkina Faso:
« L’investissement du gouvernement américain dans l’eau,
l’hygiène et l’assainissement correspond à l’objectif de
protéger les ressources en eau pour le bien-être des
populations et de leur environnement ».
In Burkina Faso, the rate of access to sanitation in rural areas
is between 1 to 6%. Given the importance of these services for
the well-being of people, the American government has
committed (through USAID WA-WASH) to assist Burkina Faso
to increase access to sanitation. According to Mr. Jim Parys,
USAID Representative in Burkina Faso, "The American
government investment in water, sanitation and hygiene
meets the objective to protect water resources for the wellbeing of people and their environment. "
Le projet d’accompagnement des communautés pour la
promotion de l’hygiene et de l’assainissement dans 30
villages des régions du Centre, du Centre-Ouest et de la
Boucle du Mouhoun matérialise cet engagement. Cofinancé par l’USAID et la Loterie Nationale Burkinabè
(LONAB), ce projet vise à amener les habitants de ces 30
villages à s’engager à abandonner la défécation à l’air libre.
D’un coût de 154 millions de francs CFA (315.000 USD), le
projet aidera ces villages à construire 1500 latrines au
profit de 15.000 personnes. Il sera exécuté par l’agence Eau
et Assainissement pour l’Afrique (EAA).
The project’s support to communities for the promotion of
hygiene and sanitation in 30 villages in the Centre, CentreOuest and Boucle du Mouhoun regions project embodies this
commitment. Co-funded by USAID and the Burkinabe National
Lottery (LONAB), this project aims to bring the residents of
these 30 villages to commit to abandon open defecation. With
the cost of 154 million francs CFA ($315,000), the project will
assist communities to construct 1,500 latrines that will benefit
15,000 people. It will be implemented by Water and
Sanitation for Africa (WSA).
Le succès de ce projet repose sur l’engagement de toutes
les parties prenantes. Dr. Lakhdar Boukerrou, Directeur
Régional du programme USAID WA-WASH, a donc affirmé:
«Nous ne doutons pas de l’intérêt des populations pour les
activités qui seront menées dans le cadre de ce projet. Je
sollicite l’engagement et le soutien des autorités
régionales, provinciales et communales ainsi que des
autorités coutumières et religieuses pour soutenir cette
initiative ».
The success of this project depends on the commitment of all
stakeholders. Dr. Lakhdar Boukerrou, USAID WA-WASH
Regional Director, said, "We are confident of the people's
interest in the activities undertaken as part of this project. I
seek the involvement and support of the regional, provincial
and municipal as well as traditional and religious authorities to
support this initiative. "
