gettingoutofCapeBretonIslandandseeingtheworld.Hewaspostedto1RCHA,Lahr
Germanyin1984(mission1and2accomplishedonfirstposting).6yearslater,2knee
operations,andaMedicalRemuster,hewaspostedto1CMBGHQ,Calgary1990asanAdmin
Clerk.After5yearsinCalgarywith1CMBGHQ,1SvcBn,1PPCLI,anda6monthtourtothe
Golan,hewasofftoHQAFNWEurope,inHighWycombe,UKasaMCpl.HQAFNWEuropewas
thehighlightofhiscareer(oratleastaccordingtohiscurrentwife(number3andfinal),who
considersherselfthe“warbride”))FiveyearsinEnglandwasagreatexperience,whichincluded
3NATOtoursoftheBalkans,with4monthstopsinCroatia,Bosnia,andAlbania.
Summerof2000,JohnwaspostedtoSGTF18FollyLake(SatelliteGroundTerminal).Hewas
promotedtoSgtandpostedto1stBattalion,TheNovaScotiaHighlandersinTruro,NSin2002.
Hespenta“wonderful”threeyearsthere,andwasecstaticoverapostingtoWainwrightin
2005.
PostedtothePPCLIBattleSchoolasaSgtin2005,helefttherefortheothersideofthebasein
2007afterpromotiontoWO,tobetheChiefClerkofCMTC.Whilethere,hewasaffordedthe
opportunitytobetheChiefClerkforRCSouthinKAF.AsJohntellsit,helovedWainwrightso
much,hestronglyconsideredputtinginhisreleaseandretiringinthearea.
However,in2011,heacceptedapostingtoCalgary,AB,partlybecausehisdaughterwas
acceptedintotheUofCalgarytogetateachingdegreeandpartlybecausehehasfamilythere.
Whilewith41CBGHQ,JohnwaspromotedtoMWOandtookoverastheBSC.Hehadashort
backfilltourwithOPIMPACTinKuwaitinsummerof2015astheTaskForceSuperintendent
Clerk.
Johnandhis“warbride”EmmawillremainintheCalgaryArea,wherehewillbegettingajob
withthelocalCommissionaires,aswellasbeingaClassAReservistwith41SvcBn.Alongthe
linetherewillbea“FEW”RoundsofGolfbeingplayedandmoreShadowBoxestobebuilt.

pourraisonmédicale,ilestaffectéauQGdu1GBMC,àCalgary,en1990,àtitredecommisà
l’administration.AprèscinqansàCalgaryavecleQGdu1GBMC,le1BonSvc,le1PPCLIetune
missiondesixmoissurleplateauduGolan,ilpartpourleQGdesForcesalliéesNord-Ouestde
l’Europe,àHighWycombe(R.-U.)commecaporal-chef.Cetteaffectationestlesommetdesa
carrière,c’estdumoinsl’avisdesaconjointeactuelle(troisièmeetdernièredelaliste),qui
estimequ’elleestune«épousedeguerre».CescinqannéesenAngleterreluiontpermis
d’acquériruneexpérienceformidable,notammentlorsdetroismissionsavecl’OTANdansles

Lake.Ilestpromuaugradedesergentetaffectéau1erBataillon,TheNovaScotiaHighlanders,
àTruro(N.-É.)en2002.Ilypassetrois«merveilleuses»annéesetestfoudejoielorsqu’onlui
offreuneaffectationàWainwrighten2005.
Bienqu’ilaitétéaffectéàl’ÉcoledecombatduPPCLIàtitredesergenten2005,ilquitteces
fonctionsen2007aprèssapromotionaugraded’adjudant,afindeserendredel’autrecôtéde
labaseetdedevenirlecommis-chefduCCEM.Àceposte,ilal’occasiondetravaillerpourleCR
Sudàl’aérodromedeKandahar.CommeJohnaimeleraconter,ilaimetellementWainwright,
qu’ilatrèssérieusementréfléchiàlapossibilitédedemandersalibérationpourprendresa
retraitedanslarégion.
Toutefois,en2011,ilaccepteunposteàCalgary(Alberta)enpartieparcequesafilleaété
acceptéeàl’universitédeCalgaryenenseignementetaussiparcequ’iladelafamillelà-bas.
Alorsqu’ilestenposteauQGdu41GBC,Johnestpromuaugraded’adjudant-maîtreetprend
larelèveducommissurveillantdelabrigade.Àl’été2015,ilparticipeàunecourtemissionde
remplacementavecl’opIMPACT,auKoweït,àtitredecommissurintendantdelaForce
opérationnelle.
JohnetEmma,son«épousedeguerre»,demeurerontdanslarégiondeCalgary,oùilauraun
emploiaveclescommissionnaires,toutenétantréservistedeclasseAavecle41BonSvc.Ilest
possiblequ’ilyait«quelques»rondesdegolfàsonhoraireetqu’ilconsacreaussiunpeude
sontempsàlafabricationdeboîtes-cadres.
