ADA Florian Delicque thought he knew what an American high school would look like based on what he
had seen in movies and television.

When the 17-year-old student from Coivrel, France, visited Ada for the first time, he found that Ada High School lived
up to his expectations. "It was exactly what I thought it was going to be in terms of the school," Delicque said as Kris
Earle, French and Spanish teacher at Ada High, translated his comments.
Delicque and seven other French vocational students are visiting Ada as part of the Eleanor Kirkpatrick

Franco-American Fellows Program, a joint project of the Alliance Francaise d'Oklahoma and the French Education
Ministry which is supported by the state Department of Education. The exchange students are accompanied by two
French-speaking teachers, Brigitte Degonville and Gaelle Saille.
The group is spending two weeks in Ada as the students research various topics, including Oklahoma wineries,
agriculture and energy production, Earle said. They are living with host families in the community during their visit.
The students spent the first week attending classes at the Pontotoc County Technology Center where they learned
about cosmetology, heavy machinery and computer design. The group also visited several Oklahoma attractions,
including the Oklahoma City National Memorial and the Chickasaw Cultural Center.
Delicque and another French student, Morgane DeSavisse, also got a chance to see life at another high school. The
two spent a day at Westmoore High School in south Oklahoma City, which is a sister school to their school in France.
The students attended an Ada Cougars home football game on Friday and will take in a road game before their visit
ends. DeSavisse said she appreciated Ada residents' efforts to make the exchange students feel welcome.
"They are very kind, and they ask questions. They're curious," she said as Earle and Deogonville translated for her.
"They come up and talk to you, even if they don't know you."
Other students said they thought Americans are more open-minded than French people.
Alix Rossignol, a 17-year-old exchange student from Saint-Quentin, France, said he enjoyed his first visit to
Oklahoma especially the football game and the cheerleaders. "I would love to come back someday," he said.
