In rooms that overlook the porch century was set up just where once was located the famous Scriptorium, the Museum of the Abbey of San Colombano that since 1997 is largely restored. The interesting findings relate to the period from the Roman era and the Renaissance, testimonies of life spent artistic, religious and cultural center of Bobbio. Roman remains found in Bobbio are the amphorae and terracotta pipes of the aqueduct that already in late-Roman fed the water pipes of the place, the ark of the family burial Cocceia (fourth century.), The altar of Diana (third century). The core is certainly more consistent represented by magnificent stones Lombard and Carolingian, richly decorated with floral and geometric patterns, artistic capitals, marble columns and sandstone that were part of the liturgical ancient basilica. Numerous stone fragments preserved deserve special attention because they represent real historical documents on the presence and permanence of Lombard culture in northern Italy. One of the most known and studied of the museum is the tombstone of Cumiano (VIII sec.), Donated to the abbot of Bobbio by the Lombard king Liutprand. In a display case houses the precious ivory casket (III-IV cent.) Of the Syrian-Palestinian area, in whose decoration is represented Orpheus, a character from Greek mythology, intent on playing a lyre surrounded by a multitude of real animals and fantastci . Other precious object the great idria alabaster (III-IV) probably donated to the monastery by Pope Honorius I, the tradition wants it linked to the miracle of the Wedding at Cana is a hypothesis but suggestive as unfounded. Ample space is dedicated to devotional objects, ampoules Palestinians (VI sec.) Richly storied, with which the pilgrims brought to the West the oil of the Holy Land, and eulogies (VI-IX sec.), Found along with the mosaic floor of the Basilica of St. Columban, during work on the adaptation of the crypt in 1911. An entire section of the museum is occupied by reliquaries and supellettile, including the knife, the cup and spoon held by tradition belonging to San Colombano. In the gallery, among the most important pieces surely the great polyptych by Bernardino Luini, 1522, which represents one of the most accomplished examples of Renaissance influences in Bobbio, and a painting by Bernardino Lanzani depicting the Nativity.
