Germany/Humanitarian Admission of Syrian Refugees: Humanitäre Aufnahme: 106 syrische
Flüchtlinge gelandet

Am Flughafen Hannover erreichten heute Nachmittag 106 syrische Flüchtlinge, die aus ihrem
Heimatland in den Libanon geflohen waren, Deutschland. Bereits im September wurden die
ersten 107 Personen per Charterflug von der Bundesregierung aus der Krisenregion nach
Deutschland geholt.
Im Rahmen der von Bundesinnenminister Friedrich im Frühjahr dieses Jahres beschlossenen
humanitären Aufnahme werden insgesamt 5.000 syrische Flüchtlinge in die Bundesrepublik
kommen. Aufnahmekriterien sind eine besondere, beispielsweise medizinische
Schutzbedürftigkeit oder bereits bestehende familiäre oder andere Bindungen an Deutschland.

US/United States Refugee Admission Programme: US reaches its refugee admissions target
for the first time since 1980

The United States announced today it brought 69,930 refugees to safety and new lives in the
United States in fiscal year 2013. That number is closer to the authorized ceiling – 70,000 in
2013 – than in any year since 1980. Reaching this threshold is a demonstration of the
Administration’s efforts to create a refugee admissions program which meets the important
security screening standards required by the American people and the growing humanitarian
need.
The United States has a strong tradition of welcoming refugees, many of whom have fled
unspeakable horrors and persecution. The Obama Administration is committed to maintaining a
strong refugee admissions program as an integral component of our effort to offer protection to
some of the world’s most vulnerable people. Their presence makes our country more diverse,
our culture richer, and our national character stronger.
For fiscal year 2014, the President authorized the admission of up to 70,000 refugees from
around the world. We expect to admit more than 60 nationalities with continued strong arrivals
from Iraq, Burma, and Bhutan. We are also working to increase Congolese and Syrian arrivals
given the numbers in need of protection through resettlement. As we enter fiscal year 2014,
we remain committed to doing everything in our power to live up to our values and to meet the
needs of the world’s most vulnerable people.

Luxembourg/Syrian Refugees: En attendant les Syriens

Annoncé fin août, l'accueil de 60 réfugiés syriens devrait être effectif début 2014. L'heure est à
la préparation de leur arrivée. Face à la situation désastreuse dans leur pays, le Luxembourg a
décidé d'accueillir 60 réfugiés syriens. Ils devraient arriver au début de l'année prochaine en
provenance d'un camp de réfugiés situé en Jordanie.
En Syrie, les tergiversations ont assez duré, le massacre doit être puni, le Luxembourg devrait
accueillir 60 réfugiés, je vais le proposer tout de suite.» Cette annonce, le ministre de
l'Immigration, Nicolas Schmit, l'a faite le 30 août dernier via son compte Twitter. Six jours plus
tard, le Conseil de gouvernement donnait son feu vert à la proposition. À l'instar d'autres pays
européens, le Grand-Duché réagit à la situation désastreuse en Syrie, où la guerre, commencée
en mars 2011, a obligé plus de deux millions de personnes (dont un million d'enfants) à trouver
refuge dans l'un des pays voisins (Liban, Jordanie, Turquie, Irak et Égypte). Sans oublier les
quatre millions de déplacés à l'intérieur de la Syrie.

US/Refugee Study: Refugees to Cleveland are well worth the investment, economic study
concludes

Three resettlement agencies spend about $4.8 million a year helping refugees to start new
lives in the Cleveland area. From that investment of mostly federal dollars comes an annual
economic impact of nearly $50 million.
That's the conclusion of a first-of-its-kind study of refugee households and their effect on the
local economy.
Daniel Meges, the economist who lead the research, told a press conference Monday morning
that the 10-to-one return is the kind of payback investors dream of.

Germany/Syrian Refugees: Humanitäre Aufnahme von 175 syrischen Flüchtlingen

Am Flughafen Kassel-Calden erreichten heute 175 syrische Flüchtlinge Deutschland. Es war der
dritte Charterflug, der aus der Krisenregion in den Libanon geflohene Flüchtlinge in die
Bundesrepublik brachte. Zuvor konnten bereits 213 Flüchtlinge am Flughafen Hannover begrüßt
werden.
Insgesamt 5.000 syrische Flüchtlinge werden im Rahmen der von Bundesinnenminister Friedrich
und den Bundesländern im Frühjahr 2013 beschlossenen humanitären Aufnahme in die
Bundesrepublik kommen. Aufnahmekriterien sind eine besondere, beispielsweise medizinische
Schutzbedürftigkeit oder bereits bestehende familiäre oder andere Bindungen an Deutschland.
Bei den heute Angekommenen handelt es sich größtenteils um Familien mit Kindern. 100 der
175 Flüchtlinge sind jünger als 18 Jahre. Die in Kassel-Calden gelandeten Personen und
diejenigen, die ihre Einreise selbst organisiert haben, eingerechnet, haben bis heute rund 830
Flüchtlinge Deutschland erreicht.
