University of Toronto: Resident`s News
November 2014 University of Toronto: Resident’s News Tiffany Parsons, MD, PGY2 We are excited to welcome all eight of our incoming PGY-1 residents: Dr. Michael Cecchini, Dr. Jaclyn Linzon-Smith, Dr. Ajali Papneja, Dr. Yuliya Velykoredko, Dr. Daniel Wong, Dr. Gustavo Rubio Gomez and Dr. David Tsoulis (joint McMaster/Toronto Program). Dr. Kirsten Walker will be joining us in the PGY-3 year (joint Saskatchewan-Toronto Program). The new residents are settling in and adjusting to the life of internal medicine subspecialty call. Thank you to all of the staff and senior residents that have given lectures in the introductory PGY-1 and PGY-2 summer course series this year. This provides the new residents with a strong background in dermatology theory even when they are mostly sequestered in the Department of Medicine. Our Resident Retreat this year provided a great opportunity for the residents to get to know one another. We are one of the largest Programs in the world with 39 Residents over the 5 years. We thank Dr. Lynne Giroux and Dr. Melinda Gooderham for sharing their stories of practicing in rural settings at this year’s retreat and Dr. Neil Shear for updating us on CanMEDS competencies, milestones, competency by design and the all important, interactions with industry representatives. We bid a fond farewell to our graduating residents: Dr. Rachel Asiniwasis (started practice in Regina), Dr. Nicole Hawkins (Scoon) (started practice in Saskatoon), Dr. Phil Doiron (started a fellowship in England in HIV dermatology and melanoma), Dr. Aaron Drucker (Junior Attending at Toronto Western Hospital prior to his fellowship next year), Dr. Ibrahim Fayez (Community Dermatology Barrie and Toronto suburbs), and Dr. Kim Tran (adult and pediatric Community Dermatology Vaughan, Ontario). Dr. Carrie Lynde and Dr. Lara Gunton both also passed their exams, and are currently completing their last 6 months of Residency (unfortunately milestones and competency by design is not here yet; otherwise both would be in Practice already). As we gear up for another year of CaRMS, I would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to all of the staff and residents that continue to make our Program strong. It is constantly evolving and it is the ideas and participation of everyone that makes it successful. Editorial Board / Conseil de rédaction National editor/ Rédacteur en chef Charles W.
