FROM: Howard Stevenson, President, and Tyler Banham, Executive Vice President, Liberal Party of Canada (Ontario) TO: Members of the Liberal Party of Canada (Ontario) DATE: January 7, 2014 RE: JOB OPENING – Director of Operations for LPC(O) The Liberal Party of Canada (Ontario) seeks to fill the position of Director of Operations, a function meant to ensure our Party’s optimal preparation in Ontario. The position: The Director of Operation (“Director”), Liberal Party of Canada (Ontario) (“LPC(O)”) is responsible to help plan and execute the Liberal Party of Canada’s (“LPC”) outreach strategy on a daily basis and oversee staff and volunteers on the ground as they reach out to the Electoral District Associations (“EDAs”) and candidates. The position requires an individual with strong communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and superior people management skills. Throughout the course of the year, the Director will: Manage, train and motivate field staff to achieve on-going goals; Hire political staff in consultation with the Human Resources Management Committee; Provide support for candidate identification and nomination process; Provide advice and support to EDAs, candidates and members; Implement and monitor election readiness of EDAs, candidates and Ontario as a whole; Serve as the primary staff contact for Ontario as part of the LPC national leadership team; Assist in drafting and implementing an annual budget with the approval of the Management Committee of LPC(O); Ensure LPC(O) Management Committee are well-informed of critical issues; Act as lead person in organization the Biennial Convention, Executive Boards, Policy Conferences, EDA Meetings and LPC(O) Management Committee Meetings; Assist LPC and the EDAs in membership and fundraising initiatives and events (i.e. Victory Fund, Laurier Club, etc.); Monitor the Canada Elections Act and ensure LPC(O) and EDA Constitutional compliance; and Plan and ensure support for visiting caucus members. The position reports directly to the LPC(O) President or his/her designate The successful applicant: Must have strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; Must be available on a full-time basis and be void of all possible or perceived conflicts of interest; Should understand the LPC structure, the role of the party executive and a basic understanding of “how parliament works”; Will have a track record of building relationships, a deep commitment to the LPC, and the ability to deal with a myriad of constituents and stakeholders; Will have previous organizing and canvass experience with a local, provincial or national campaign, a membership organization, or a nonprofit organization; Will have previous campaign staff management and training skills desirable; Must be a motivated self-starter; Must have general computer skills; Will have knowledge of Ontario’s political landscape; May expect that extensive travel across Ontario is required; and Must have reliable transportation. La position: Le(la) directeur/directrice général(e) (« directeur/directrice) ») du Parti libéral du Canada (Ontario) a pour fonctions de contribuer au quotidien à la planification et à l’exécution de la stratégie de rayonnement du Parti libéral du Canada (PLC) et de superviser les activités de sensibilisation du personnel de terrain et des bénévoles qui travaillent en collaboration avec les associations de circonscription (ADC) et les candidats. La personne qui occupera ce poste doit avoir de solides compétences en communication, un sens aigu de l’organisation et des capacités confirmées en gestion du personnel. Durant l’année, le(la) directeur/directrice général(e) sera appelé(e) à: gérer, former et motiver des employés de terrain afin d’atteindre les objectifs fixés; recruter des employés en consultation avec le Comité de gestion pour PLC(O) ; fournir le soutien requis pour identifier des candidats et mener à bien le processus de nomination; conseiller et aider des ADC, des candidats et des membres; mettre en œuvre et superviser le travail de préparation des élections entrepris par des ADC et des candidats, et au Ontario dans son ensemble; être le(la) principal(e) représentant(e) d’Ontario au sein de l’équipe dirigeante nationale du PLC; contribuer à établir et à mettre en œuvre un budget annuel, avec l’approbation du Conseil éxecutif du PLC(O); veiller à tenir le Conseil d’administration du PLC (Ontario) parfaitement informé des enjeux critiques; diriger les activités liées à l’organisation de l’Assemblée générale biennale, des congrès d’orientation, des réunions d’ADC et des réunions du Conseil d’administration du PLC (Ontario); soutenir les initiatives et les activités du PLC et des ADC dans le domaine du recrutement d’adhérents et des campagnes de financement (p. ex., Fonds de la victoire, Club Laurier, etc.); se tenir au courant de possibles modifications à la Loi électorale du Canada et s’assurer de la conformité des constitutions du PLC (Ontario) et des ADC; planifier et préparer les visites de membres du caucus. Ce poste relève directement du président du PLC (Ontario) ou son / sa délégué. La personne dont la candidature sera retenue: doit posséder beaucoup d’entregent et de solides compétences en communication verbale et écrite; doit être disponible à plein temps et ne se trouver dans aucune circonstance pouvant être interprétée ou perçue comme un conflit d’intérêts; doit connaître la structure du PLC et le rôle de ses dirigeants, et doit avoir une idée générale de la façon dont fonctionne le Parlement; aura une aptitude confirmée à développer des relations, démontrera un solide engagement envers le PLC, et sera apte à traiter avec un électorat et des intervenants très divers; possèdera de l’expérience dans le domaine de l’organisation et du démarchage au bénéfice d’une campagne locale, provinciale ou nationale, d’une association d’adhérents ou d’un organisme à but non lucratif; aura préférablement une expérience dans le domaine de la gestion et de la formation d’une équipe de campagne; doit avoir de l’initiative et être motivé(e); doit posséder des compétences générales en informatique; connaîtra le milieu politique d’Ontario; doit s’attendre à devoir faire de nombreux déplacements d’Ontario; doit disposer d’un moyen de transport fiable.
