Il peut sembler paradoxal de parler de voix lorsqu’il s’agit de se confronter à un texte écrit qui, par
définition, est muet : la voix dans l’écriture participe en effet du simulacre, du faux-semblant, d’une
fiction de présence. Ce recueil propose par conséquent d’analyser les modes de représentation d’effets
de voix et d’oralité dans la littérature contemporaine anglophone en parcourant tout le spectre qui
mène du débordement à l’aphasie, du trop plein de paroles à la carence de la voix. Il s’agit d’une part
d’envisager les processus d’épuration de la langue et de contamination du silence, en analysant les
ellipses narratives, stratégies de déplacement, figures dilatoires, récits troués, aposiopèses et blancs
typographiques, qui participent d’une stratégie délibérée de mise à distance de sujets traumatiques et
révèlent les difficultés relatives à toute entreprise de dévoilement, de mise à nu, d’exploration de
l’intime, d’anamnèse et d’exhumation du passé public ou privé. D’autre part, il s’agit d’analyser les
procédés inverses d’emphase, d’excès de voix et de logorrhée, en particulier dans les ouvrages écrits
sur le mode de la confession. Nous abordons également la question des voix métaphoriques et
métonymiques par l’analyse des prises de parole ou mises sous silence des voix interdites, en
particulier dans la littérature post-coloniale (voix de l’Autre, du subalterne). Les contributions portent
sur le fiction des années 1960 à nos jours, et plus particulièrement sur les oeuvres de Will Self,
Graham Swift, John Fowles, Kazuo Ishiguro, Jenny Diski, Lionel Shriver, Michèle Roberts, Margaret
Atwood, Jonathan Safran Foer, Salman Rushdie, Arundhati Roy, Zadie Smith, Jamaica Kincaid,
Ryhaan Shah et J.M. Coetzee.
