Shelly Bahl is a visual artist, curator, and educator based in Toronto and New York City. Her
interdisciplinary work has appeared in a number of solo and group exhibitions in North America and
internationally. Her current projects include solo exhibitions at M.Y. Art Prospects in New York, the
Khyber Centre for the Arts in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Gallery 198 in London, England, and Vancouver’s
Centre A. In the past year, she has also participated in group exhibitions at the India Habitat Centre
Gallery in New Delhi, the BosePaciaModern Gallery in New York, Centre M.A.I. in Montreal, and
Toronto’s Open Studio, among others. Her artwork is on view at www.shellybahl.com.
Shelly Bahl est une artiste visuelle, une conservatrice et une éducatrice qui vit à Toronto et à New York. Son

A Room With a View, III is a continuation of the installations/interventions that I developed for the Migrations
North/South Project in Chile in February 2002, in which I created faux domestic spaces that became stages for
interactive acts of consumption and storytelling. For this mixed-media installation, I’ve created a small neoVictorian salon/gallery with a series of photographic prints. The photographs are architectural details of sites of
past European colonial grandeur that are now in various stages of decay. The faux antique wallpapers,
furnishings, and photographs are all contemporary re-appropriations of colonial nostalgia.
A Room With a View, III est la poursuite d’une installation et d’une intervention que j’ai élaborées pour le
projet « Migrations Nord/Sud » au Chili en février 2002. J’y ai créé de faux espaces domestiques qui sont
devenus des scènes pour des activités interactives de consommation et de narration de contes. Pour cette
installation de médias mixtes, j’ai créé un petit salon et une galerie néo-victorienne avec une série d’épreuves
photographiques. Les photos présentent des détails architecturaux de sites qui possèdent l’ancienne splendeur
coloniale européenne, mais qui sont dégradés à des degrés divers. Tous faux, les papiers muraux, les
photographies et les meubles anciens sont tous des réappropriations contemporaines de la nostalgie coloniale.
A Room With a View III, es una continuación de las instalaciones/intervenciones que desarrollé para el
proyecto Migraciones Norte/Sur en Chile, en Febrero 2002, en el que creé falsos espacios domésticos que
se transformaron en escenarios, para actos interactivos de consumo e historias orales. Para esta instalación
de técnicas mixtas, he creado un salón/galería Neo-Victoriano con una serie de fotografías. Las fotografías
son detalles arquitectónicos, de sitios de la grandeza del pasado colonial Europeo, que se encuentran en
varios estados de decadencia. El falso empapelado antiguo, los muebles, y las fotografías manifiestan todo
el reapropiamiento contemporáneo de la nostalgia colonial.
