What is an odour?
What is an Odour Wheel ?
An odour is a “volatile emanation that is characteristic
of certain substances and that can cause sensations
in humans and animals due to the stimulation of
specialised organs.”
An innovative tool, the Odour Wheel® was developed
in collaboration with the University of California, Los
Angeles (UCLA). The Odour Wheel’s principle is based on
associating a perceived odour to a known and recognised
odour.
The Odour Wheel® may be adapted as a function of the
neighbourhood or activity in question.
A location’s operators, its customers, and neighbouring
are trained in recognising and characterising odours
associated with a location.

The notion of good and bad odours is tied to cultures and
to individual experiences of the person smelling it. An
odour perceived to be pleasant by one individual may be
considered unpleasant by another.
