David Verlant was born in 1969 in Paris, France, where he still lives and works. He is a
French photographer, painter, script and lyrics writer.
David’s artistic experience began as a photojournalist for various magazines and
newspapers, such as Rock & Folk and Vogue Hommes International.
In a special project commissioned by L’Eclectique magazine, he gave his own vision of
winter in Saint Tropez, creating a new approach to this French glamorous summer
destination. These series of texts and images were published by arts et îles in 2005 and
encountered a great commercial success, which lead to David Verlant’s current
project about unique photographs of Paris.
Over the years David Verlant has widened his artistic universe through various positions
as movie/tour photographer. He has been following movie and tour sets for more than
15 years and has therfore shot series of portraits of the most famous actors and singers
of the last and the new century. None of these 80 portraits, including among others Clint
Eastwood, Jean-Pierre Marielle and Joseph L. Mankiewicz, have been published yet.
David Verlant's various talents and passions as a lyrics and script writer give a unique
touch to his pictures.
As a lyrics writer, David Verlant has written about 30 major French songs, among them
hits for Jenifer, Emilie Simon and Chrtistopher Stills.
« Désert », Emile Simon’s first success, was released October 2002, and acclaimed by
the critics and the public likewise. This lead Emilie Simon to a French Music Award in 2004
for the best electonic album. Followed « Lit » for Emilie Simon and « Tourner ma page »
for Jenifer, another 2007-hit-single. (from the album « Lunatique » mixed by Bob
Clearmountain).
David is also currently co-writing a script with Amaury Salmon which will go in production this year.
In David Verlant’s universe, pictures and images are often associated to poems and
words, to widen with moving signs the still-flat dimension of the image.
