The number in the lower rightcornerreferstotheso-calledGroultAlbum,animportantvolumeofmorethan500sheets, themajorityofthemdrawingsbyPater. This is one of three drawings by Jean-Baptiste François Pater found in the Schwabing Art Trove thatwereofferedforsaleatHôtelDrouotin1941.TheotherdrawingsareÉtudedefemmeassise, levisagetournéversladroite(Studyofasittingwoman,turnedtotheright)(LostArtID:478177) andFemmedeboutvuededos(Studyofawomanseenfrombehind)(LostArtID:478529). Research is on-going to establish the circumstances of the 1941 sale, as well as the buyers of theseparticularworks. ThepersonalpapersfoundinCorneliusGurlitt’sSalzburghomeincludeacollectionofabout2,400 photographsofartworks.Photographno.7.1_F784isareproductionofthiswork.
