“The chaos is over”, but tensions remain in the Central African Republic - “The chaos is over” in the
Central African Republic (CAR), according to the Interim President, Alexandre-Ferdinand Nguendet. “The
break is over,” he announced. “The robberies are over, the chaos is over. The Central African people
must get back their honour to allow the country to live.” On the surface, relative calm seems to have
returned to the CAR after the resignation of the country’s first Muslim President Michel Djotodia.

Centrafrique: le CNT en session pour élire un nouveau président - Le Conseil national de transition
centrafricain (CNT, parlement provisoire) a ouvert mardi une session spéciale pour élire un nouveau
président de transition après la démission contrainte vendredi de Michel Djotodia. La séance solennelle
d'ouverture était dirigée par la vice-présidente de l'institution, Léa Koyassoum Doumta, en l'absence de
son président, Alexandre-Ferdinand Nguendet, chef de l'Etat intérimaire depuis dimanche, a constaté

Centrafrique : l'Envoyé de l'ONU estime que l'espoir est à portée de main - Le Représentant spécial du
Secrétaire général pour la République centrafricaine, Babacar Gaye, a estimé lundi que le pays était
dans une situation critique mais que l'espoir était à portée de main, après la démission du Président et
du Premier ministre de transition. « La République centrafricaine est actuellement à un stade critique »,
mais « aujourd'hui, je peux dire que l'espoir est à portée de main », a déclaré M. Gaye lors d'un point de
presse par téléphone avec des journalistes à New York.

CAR Humanitarian Crisis Deepens - The number of people displaced in the troubled Central African
Republic has topped 1 million, as the country's humanitarian crisis grows deeper. The United Nations
refugee agency said Monday that more than 950,000 people were displaced within the CAR, while
another 86,000 have fled to neighboring countries. VOA reporter Nick Long is in the CAR capital,
Bangui. He said that according to a report from the U.N. humanitarian agency, living conditions for most

Humanitarian aid needed as Central African Republic regroups - After months of violence in the
Central African Republic, signs of hope emerged following Friday’s (Jan. 10) resignation of interim
President Michel Djotodia and Prime Minister Nicholas Tiengaye. But Roman Catholic Archbishop Nestor
Desire Nongo-Aziagbia of Bossangoa said that although guns had gone silent, the crisis was far from
