REFERENCE
The Palace distinction was created in November 2010 in order to highlight one of France's specific strengths,
its outstanding hotels. It allows those 5-star establishments with exceptional geographical locations, historical
interest, aesthetic and/or heritage features and customised service, to be recognised as the jewels of French
hostelry.
The Palace distinction also makes it easier to highlight these hotels on the international scene, contributing to
the promotion of French culture and raising the profile of France as a destination. The distinction is allocated
for a 5-year period after an initial phase of application review carried out by Atout France and a second
evaluation phase (including visits to the establishment and interviews with staff) carried out by a distinguished
panel from the worlds of art, literature, culture, media and business, nominated by the Minister of Tourism.
