BIRTHS, DEATHS AND MARRIAGES
Births
The birth of a child born in France must be registered within three days of its
occurrence at the Town Hall of the place of birth. You may also be eligible to
register the child’s birth at the Embassy of the country to which you are a citizen.
Marriages
Advice concerning marriages must be obtained from the Town Hall where the
marriage is to take place. Publication of the banns in the town hall is compulsory
in France.
Deaths
The death of a relative or friend can be a traumatic experience. Dealing with
death in a foreign country can be even more daunting due to the unfamiliar and
foreign administrative proceedings as well as the language barrier.
For British nationals The British Embassy and Consular services are ready to help
in any way and can give advice on repatriation and burial
Naissances
Un enfant né en France doit être déclaré au maximum 3 jours après sa naissance
à la mairie du lieu de naissance. Selon les lois en vigueur dans votre pays de
citoyenneté, vous auriez, peut-être, la possibilité de déclarer sa naissance auprès de
votre ambassade.
Mariages
Vous serez renseigner sur le mariage à la mairie où vous avez l’intention de vous
marier. La publication des bans à la mairie est obligatoire en France.
Décès
Le décès d’un proche est traumatisant. Les démarches administratives inconnues
et la barrière de la langue peuvent rendre la situation encore plus difficile. Pour
les ressortissants britanniques, l'ambassade britannique et les services consulaires
sont prêts à vous aider et peuvent vous conseiller sur le rapatriement et
l'enterrement
