organisations in Strasburg, Nantes, Brest, Paris,

Press release No. TR10SOC05
Paris, Tuesday 2 February 2010
Sizzla, a singer characterised by his homophobic and racist comments and
lyrics, is returning to France. It was announced by the Internet site Fnac.com
that he would be: on Friday 25 February at 20:30 hrs, at La Laiterie, 13 Rue du
Hohwald, Strasburg; on Thursday 26 February at 20:00 hrs, at l’Odyssée, BoisCesbron, Orvault (Nantes); on Saturday 27 February at 20:30 hrs, at la Carène,
30 Rue Jean-Marie-Le-Brie, Brest; on Sunday 28 February at 19:30 hrs, at
l’Élysée-Montmartre, 72 Boulevard Rochouard, Paris; on Monday 1 March at
20:00 hrs, at Transbordeur, 3 Boulevard Stalingrad, Villeurbanne (Lyon); on
Tuesday 1 March at 19:30 hrs, at the Double-Mixte space, 43 Boulevard du 11Novembre-1918, Villeurbanne (Lyon); on Thursday 11 March at 19:30 hrs, at
l’Aéronef, Avenue Willy-Brandt, Lille.
TJENBÉ RÈD is an Afro-West Indian association dedicated to the fight against
all forms of racism, homophobia, and against AIDS. It is also the French
section of the international network Stop Murder Music. It makes this appeal
to all groups who defend human rights in Strasburg, Nantes, Brest, Paris,
Villeurbanne, Lyon and Lille: IT IS UP TO YOU TO DEMONSTRATE, TO WARN
ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES, TO INSTIGATE LEGAL PROCEEDINGS IF
NECESSARY TO PUT A STOP TO HATRED!
In 1998, Sizzla incited his audiences to «burn all the Whites in Jamaica». In
2001, he crooned «Burn those guys who bugger other guys, do these faggots
in!». In 2007, after having put his name to the Reggae Compassionate Act,
which was supposed to put an end to these sorts of remarks, he showed he
had no intention of respecting his own signature by performing the song «Nah
Apologize». An open letter, published on 13 May 2008 by TJENBÉ RED and
fifteen other human rights defence groups, was sent to all the Mayors and all
those responsable for the concert halls which were to host Sizzla’s French tour
highlighted these yet other comments. (See attached documents.)
