Der deutsch-französische Künstler Ewen Gur ist 1984 in Ambilly (Haute-Savoie) geboren und im Loire-Tal
aufgewachsen. Seine künstlerische Vorstellungswelt ist stark von Street Art und Comics beeinflusst. Seine Arbeiten
zeichnen sich durch eine reduzierte, klare Linienführung in der figurativen Gestaltung und durch die ungewöhnlichen Proportionen der Gesichter und Körper aus. Dazu kommt ein allgegenwärtiger Humor. Er interessiert sich
insbesondere für die neuen Formen figurativer Darstellung, seine fließende, aber sehr wirkungsvolle Zeichentechnik verleiht seinen Figuren ihre besondere Dynamik. Die Musik spielt in seinem kreativen Schaffensprozess eine
besondere Rolle. Sie liefert Ideen und Energie. Ihren Rhythmus findet man in vielen Werken des Künstlers, der
hier seine früheren Erfahrungen als Jazz-, Funk- und Rockmusiker gestalterisch zum Ausdruck bringt. In seinen
Arbeiten begegnet uns eine urbane Welt, die ihre Grenzen nicht mehr kennt und die sich selbst in die Katastrophe
treibt. Mit Humor reflektieren seine Bilder unsere Konsumgesellschaft mit ihren Verwerfungen und Absurditäten, in seiner naiven Zeichentechnik spiegelt sich der destruktive Wahnsinn der Menschheit. Seine bevorzugten
Themen sind die Stadt und die Konsumgesellschaft. Ewen Gur zeichnet sie völlig unbefangen, wie ein Kind von
dieser vertikalen Maßlosigkeit fasziniert. Doch trotz seines kritischen Blicks aud diese Gesellschaft bleibt sein Werk
immer optimistisch.
French artist Ewen Gur was born in a french-german family in Ambilly (Haute-Savoie, France) and grew up in
the surroundings of Tours (Indre-et-Loire, France). His artistic style is influenced by street arts and comics.The
characters in his work are sketched with black outlines, their bodies and heads mostly oversized and his paintings
never lack humour. He is interested in new forms of figurative expressions. His line is soft and effective and he
focuses on dynamism. Music has a main part in the creative process. It is a source of ideas and energy and Ewen
enjoys reproducing on the canvas its inner life and rhythms. As a former jazz, funk and rock musician, he knows
how to sketch its everyday life. Ewen Gur’s work depicts a urban world no longer aware of its limits and leading
itself to catastrophe. He describes the drifts and aberrations of consumerism in a humourous way and paints with a
naive line the destructive foolishness of mankind. The city and the consumering way of life are among his favorite
themes. He paints our urban world with a self-assured line and he is fascinated, as a child would be, by its gigantic
verticality. But however critical his work might be, Ewen’s approach stays an optimistic one. Ewen today lives and
works in Berlin. His artistic originality needed such a lively and creative place as the german capital.

L’artiste français Ewen Gur naît en 1984 dans une famille franco-allemande à Ambilly (Haute-Savoie) et grandit
en Touraine (France). Son univers artistique est fortement influencé par les arts urbains et la bande dessinée.
On retrouve dans son travail un traitement épuré des personnages, des visages et des corps aux proportions peu
académiques et, bien sûr, un humour omniprésent. Il s’intéresse aux nouvelles formes d’expressions figuratives.
Il adopte un trait souple et efficace et travaille le dynamisme de ses personnages. La musique tient un rôle important dans le processus de création. Elle est source d’idées et d’énergie et il aime reproduire sur la toile le rythme et
la vie qui la caractérisent. Ewen utilise son expérience passée de musicien de jazz, funk et rock pour croquer des
scènes de ce quotidien. L’oeuvre d’Ewen Gur dépeint un monde urbain qui ne connait plus ses limites et se mène
lui-même à la catastrophe. Toujours avec humour, il décrit notre société de consommation avec ses dérives et ses
aberrations et peint avec un trait naïf la folie destructrice de l’homme. La ville et la société de consommation sont
ses thèmes de prédilection. Il peint notre monde urbain d’un trait sans repentis et est fasciné, tel un enfant, par
cette démesure verticale. Mais si son regard est critique envers notre société, l’oeuvre d’Ewen est néanmoins chargée
d’optimisme. Ewen Gur vit et travaille aujourd’hui à Berlin. Il fallait bien une ville aussi bouillonnante et énergique
que la capitale allemande pour accueillir son originalité artistique.
