Have you ever wondered what kind of food was served at the first Thanksgiving feast? No
one wrote down what was served, so historians can only make an educated guess. The
Pilgrims brought seeds for onions, cabbage, carrots, and turnips. Seafood, such as lobster,
eels, oysters, and fish, were plentiful in New England waters. There was also corn for bread
and puddings. The Pilgrims and the Wampanoag may have also had pumpkin, but not
pumpkin pie. For dessert, there were fruits, such as plums, strawberries, and gooseberries,
that had been picked and dried in the spring.
