There are two key events on the political and environmental horizon: the 15th annual United Nations
Negotiations on Climate Change (COP15) in Copenhagen, Denmark in December 2009; and the G8
Leaders’ Summit in Huntsville, ON in July 2010. While a majority of Canadians want the federal
government to take bold actions, many are unaware that Canada is actually an international laggard.
Power Shift will play a key role in directing civil society's and media's attention to our government’s role at
both events. We need to set expectations for leadership that we can be proud of.

Do you feel as though it’s hard to express how you feel to friends who can’t really relate? It’s about
time you connect with people who share similar experiences as you and who want to talk about them with
people who understand.
Students Supporting Disabilities (SSD) is a club devoted to being an accessible social support network
for people whose lives have been affected by physical, mental, or developmental disabilities either
directly or indirectly (through a family member or loved one). We hope to provide you an opportunity to
connect to others who may be able to provide advice, or at the very least understanding.
In addition to supporting one another, our members will do their part in supporting the disabled
community of McGill and Montreal through assisting with events that promote awareness about
disabilities, and possibly through hosting some events of our own. Furthermore, we hope to create links
between SSD member and researchers at McGill who specialize in disability, in order to provide our
members with access to further knowledge and support.

The 8th annual Rethink conference: education+sustainability
October 22, 2009. The Sub-Committee on Environment will hold its eighth annual Rethink conference,
which traditionally aims to provide the community with information on environmental initiatives on
campus by students and the administration, as well as an opportunity to provide suggestions on priority
environmental projects to be addressed. Focus this year will be on education and sustainability.

la faculté est une ressource essentielle et est le seul service de tutorat gratuit sur le campus pour les
étudiants en science. C’est une bonne occasion de faire du bénévolat et ça fait bonne impression sur

Le club des Étudiants au Soutien des Handicapés (ESH) est un groupe commis à être un réseau de
soutien accessible pour ceux dont les vies ont été affectées par des handicaps physiques, mentaux, ou
développementaux, directement ou indirectement (par l’entremise d’un membre de la famille ou d’un
proche). Nous espérons vous procurer une occasion de vous mettre en contact avec d’autres qui seraient
en mesure de vous conseiller, ou au moins vous comprendre.
En plus de se soutenir entre eux, nos membres feront aussi leur part dans le soutien de la
communauté handicapée de McGill et Montréal en assistant avec des évènements promouvant la prise
de conscience sur les handicaps, et peut-être à travers nos propres évènements à nous. Enfin, nous
aimerions créer des liens entre les membres d’ESH et les chercheurs à McGill qui se spécialisent dans

conférence annuelle « Repenser McGill »: l’éducation + la durabilité.
Le 22 octobre, 2009. Le Sous-comité sur l’environnement tiendra se huitième conférence annuelle
« Repenser McGill », qui a traditionnellement eu pour but de fournir des informations à la communauté
concernant les initiatives environnementales sur le campus entreprises par les étudiants et
l’administration; ainsi que de fournir des suggestions sur les projets environnementaux prioritaires à être
adressés. Le point focal cette année sera sur l’éducation et la durabilité.

Publique de Harvard
Quelques questions qui seront abordées à la conférence:

Comment est-ce que l’université exerce son rôle, sa responsabilité dans l’éducation pour la
durabilité?

Comment les professeurs peuvent-ils devenir plus écologiques conscients dans la pratique de
leur vocation?
•
Comment est-ce que la communauté universitaire devrait-elle intégrer l’éducation pour la
durabilité dans ses programmes?
En accord avec la politique environnementale de McGill, la conférence servira à accroître la prise de
conscience des questions environnementales dans la communauté de McGill, tout en forgeant les
valeurs appropriées et les connaissances et aptitudes nécessaires pour nous permettre de travailler pour
la restauration et la préservation de l’environnement.

Le 23-26 octobre, 2009, plus de 1000 jeunes de tous le pays convergeront à Ottawa pour apporter un
message d’action fédérale pour le climat immédiate, compréhensive, et solide à Parliament Hill. Power
Shift constituera deux jours d’entraînement, de stratégie, et d’action; ainsi que d’une journée de lobbying
massive pour responsabiliser nos officiers élus pour leur part dans la résolution de la crise climatique et
pour construire un mouvement climatique cohésif et effective parmi les jeunes. Ceci sera le
rassemblement le plus large de jeunes personnes dans l’histoire environnementale de ce pays.
