Parking Tip of the Week We have moved our student crossing patrols on Laronde Drive from Amble Green in the new year and are already noticing that traffic is moving a little slower in that area – Merci! I would like to remind you that it is permitted to stop all along the front of Laronde Park – not park, but only stop – which makes a great alternative to dropping off or picking up – especially older students – in the school’s parking lot. Something to consider… Also we would like to ask you to be especially careful when exiting the school’s parking lot and not assume that all oncoming traffic on Laronde Drive is turning in the parking lot – some cars keep going straight to park further down. We Create Change -‐ Update Thank you to all the participants of this week's Coin Toss. We raised $476 towards our January total for "We Create Change." That's nearly 24 bricks towards building a school in Sierra Leone! This upcoming week, on Wednesday January 22nd, the Leadership students will be hosting a bake sale at lunch recess. All items in the bake sale cost $0.50 and the students are limited to a maximum purchase of 2 items. They will also be selling raffle tickets at $0.50 each to win a full cake! Primary students (K-‐3) can go to the outside door of room 503 and Intermediate students (4-‐7) can go to the outside door of room 508. Thank you for your continued support of this fundraising initiative for Free The Children. For more information, please visit http://www.freethechildren.com/get-‐involved/campaigns/we-‐create-‐
change/ The App of the Week La magie des mots – French version of Word Wizard app called “Speak ‘N Spell for the iPad Generation” -‐ $3.99 The app allows students to enter their weekly dictée words/sentences and provides practice by speaking out the words back for them to write. The app also provides a list of 1400 words for students to learn to write – and there is more. FSA – for parents in grades 4 and 7 If you have a child in grade 4 or 7, he/she will write the Ministry’s Foundation Skills Assessment this January-‐February. Please refer to the document at the bottom of this newsletter for further details. There is an opportunity for students to “practice” before the assessment by following the link below. https://www.awinfosys.com/eassessment/fsa_sample.htm Next week / La semaine prochaine Lundi / Monday 27 Mardi / Tuesday 28 Mercredi / Wednesday 29 Jeudi / Thursday 30 Vendredi / Friday 31 Hot lunch Hi Moms or Dads!
We need you and your 8-12 year old son with ADHD to help with a study at UBC!
We are studying how boys with ADHD think about their social interactions, compared to boys
without ADHD. Moms or dads and their sons can visit the Parenting Lab at the University of
British Columbia, or may have research assistants visit their home. Boys will complete three
social interaction tasks on the computer, and complete some questionnaires about themselves.
Parents will be asked to complete some questionnaires as well.
This study takes about 60 minutes.
Compensation
Families will receive a $15 honourarium for their participation.
How to get involved
Appointments are scheduled for families at a time convenient for them (e.g., evenings, weekends).
