Chers membres,
Potluck.
Nous tenons à remercier Colette Windish pour son travail
exceptionnel et pour la conférence bilingue donnée sur
Si Vichy m’était conté. Le professeur Windish,
bibliothèque ambulante de cette époque sombre de
l’histoire de la France, a rendu accessible cette époque à
tout un chacun en expliquant la série télévisée, Un
Village français. Un vrai coup de génie ! Sa présentation
a suivi l’inauguration de l’exposition qui se tient
actuellement au History Museum of Mobile : Filmer les
Camps : de Hollywood à Nuremberg jusqu’au 16 janvier
2017.
J’espère vous retrouver très bientôt lors de notre
prochain potluck. D’ici là, portez-vous bien !
Cette réunion consistera à planifier le Festival
International, mais elle concerne tous les membres, que
vous ayez ou non l’intention d’y participer ou d’y aller.
Ce sera l’occasion de se réunir, de manger et discuter,
de boire et de se détendre en toute convivialité.

EVENT
We would like to thank Dr. Colette Windish for the
exceptional job she did with her bilingual lecture: Once
Upon a Time in Vichy France. Dr. Windish is a walking
encyclopedia of this dark era of French history. The way
she was able to make this period accessible to the
general public by looking at the popular television series,
Un Village français, was pure genius. Her presentation
was part of a larger series of programs following the
inauguration of the exposition at the History Museum of
Mobile: Filming the Camps: From Hollywood to
Nuremberg, August 29, 2016 – January 16, 2017.
Our next get together, an organizational meeting for the
International Festival, will be a potluck on Sunday,
November 13 at 2:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall of All Saints
Episcopal Church.

The Alliance Française is pleased to announce that
Marie-Hélène Hickman will be offering eight-week
sessions of French classes as well as private lessons.
Beginner Sessions: Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11
a.m.
Other levels: Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Festival International de Mobile : 2016
The W.P. Davidson High School French National Honor
Society is busy preparing for the Mobile International
Festival. This year’s theme is “Art and Architecture.” The
students will showcase four prominent Parisian
Landmarks: the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, le Sacré
Coeur, and the Arc de Triomphe. Each monument will be
presented as large classically framed works of art with an
abstract-impressionistic flair. These framed works will set
the scene of an art gallery directly across from the
French booth which will feature our traditional café
awning.

Chaque week-end du mois d’octobre, est projeté un film
français au Fairhope Campus du Faulkner State. La
séance commence à 19 h au Centennial Hall. Voir le lien

Don’t forget that the French Film Series on the Fairhope
Campus of Faulkner State. Screening continues every
weekend throughout the month of October. Each movie
begins at 7:00 p.m. at Centennial Hall. Click on the

Comme chaque année, les élèves de la Société
Honoraire de Français de W.P. Davidson High School,
sous la direction du Monsieur Will Edmonds, prépareront
la décoration du stand de l’Alliance Française. Le thème
choisi est « L’art et l’architecture. » Les élèves ont
l’intention de présenter quatre monuments parisiens
iconiques : la Tour Eiffel, Notre Dame de Paris, la
Basilique du Sacré-Cœur et l’Arc de Triomphe. Chaque
monument sera encadré comme une œuvre d’art
classique,
mais
avec
une
touche
abstraiteimpressionniste. Ces œuvres, exposées comme en
galerie d’art, seront placées juste en face du stand de
l’Alliance Française.
Le Festival International se tiendra le samedi 19
novembre 2016 de 10 h à 16 h au Mobile Civic Center.

Book Club: Reading and Discussion in English
Some members of Alliance have expressed interest in
participating in a Book Club. Tom Brennan has agreed to
act as the lead person in this endeavor. His intention for
the club is to read and talk about good books. By "good
books" he means books of high quality that shed light on
our human predicament(s). Members of the club will, of
course, have different opinions about which books are
worthy of the club's attention, and from this discussion, a
choice will be made. In the absence of a preference, Dr.
Brennan will make the selection.
We will meet at a convenient location not yet decided
upon.

français/anglais. Le principe du tandem linguistique est
de donner l'opportunité à une personne francophone et à
une personne anglophone de se rencontrer
régulièrement afin de s'enseigner réciproquement leur
langue. Ainsi, la conversation se déroule pour une moitié
du temps en français puis pour l'autre moitié du temps en
anglais (ou inversement) et chacun des deux partenaires
corrige à tour de rôle la prononciation, la grammaire et le
vocabulaire de l'autre.

Would you like to improve your English or
French skills?
The Alliance Française of Mobile will try to help you find
a conversation partner French/English. The idea behind
this is to give the English or French speaking person the
opportunity to meet on a regular basis with the goal of
teaching each other their respective language. For
example, the conversation can begin in French and then
switch to English (or the opposite). Each partner can
correct the pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary of
the other person. If you want further information, please
