The Adult Intermediate level 2 French Class will meet every Thursdays starting September
5, 2013 to November 7, 2013. The classes will be of two hours, from 5:45-7:45pm.
The first 15 minutes of classes will be to review the poignant 15 minute video that opens up the

related to the lesson with a lot of discussions and interpretations.
Classes will be held at the co-working space named Bourse-New Haven, 2nd floor, in back of
room, located at 839 Chapel Street, New Haven CT. Parking is available on the streets (Chapel
and Orange St.) and at the covered parking garage above Elm City Market. The entrance of the
parking garage is at 360 State Street, New Haven. The parking ticket costs $2.00/hour but if you
buy something at the market, you will have an hour parking for free.
All our language classes offer an immersion experience in the French language which means
that instruction will be given in French. Students are encouraged to express themselves in
French and they will learn French grammatical principles intuitively through repetition.
Grammatical instruction will be a tool, not a goal.
Language classes will meet once a week for two hours.

University and has been teaching language classes at Brown University, Harvard University,
Yale University and Southern Connecticut State University since 1992.

FRENCH 201
The Intermediate level 2 class is a continuation of the Intermediate level 1 class offered by the Alliance
Française of New Haven. Students will have completed the first 5 chapters of the method Imaginez by
Mitschke, Vista publisher, and will have reviewed the present imperfect and passé composé at the
intermediate level as well as studied the themes of personal relations (civil status, personality,
relations, feelings), of living in town (activities done in town, people in town, how to ask for directions,
describe places), of the medias (the cinema and the television, people in the medias, the press), of the
world of justice and politics (the law, people’s rights, politics, our security), and of our society in
evolution (changes in society, problems and solutions).
The method Imaginez, features a magazine-like design that engages students while integrating
thematic, cultural and grammatical concepts within every sections of the text. The lessons are arranged
thematically and introduced by a poignant 15 min-movie. We will study the themes of “Les générations
qui bougent”, “Les sciences et la technologie”, “S’évader et s’amuser”, « Perspectives de travail »,
« Les richesses naturelles ».
Magazine articles will teach us about parts of the Francophone world and its creators (writers, painters,
sculptors, architects, engineers…) associated with North Africa and Lebanon, Belgium, Switzerland and
Luxembourg, the Indian Ocean, Central Africa, and the French Polynesia, New Guinea and Asian French
colonies.
In grammar, we will learn the subjunctive tense, the relative pronouns, the future tense, the
comparative and superlatives of adjectives and adverbs, the present and past conditional, the
prepositions of geographical names, the present participles, the -OIR verbs, the Si-clauses.
