La Faculté des 1000 (Faculty of 1000 ou F1000) compile les meilleurs articles dans les domaines de la biologie et médecins qui
sont recommandés par plus 5'000 experts et chercheurs. La publication du Prof. Munier a reçu la note de 10.
Il s'agit d'une "Post-publication peer review of the biomedical literature" qui retient et sélectionne dans la masse des publications
environ 2% des articles. Seul 2/1000 obtiennent la notation 10. C'est la seconde fois qu'un travail de l'Hôpital Jules­Gonin est cité
dans le Faculty of 1000 (la première était une autre publication dans le journal Science dont le Prof. Munier était co­auteur).
D'autre part, les éditeurs du British Journal of Ophthalmology ont décidé de mettre l'article à disposition des lecteurs non­
abonnés gratuitement jusqu'au 8 septembre.

In this study Munier et al reports on the short-term efficacy of intravitreal melphalan for vitreal retinoblastoma using a new injection
technique. In a retrospective analysis of consecutive heavily pretreated 23 eyes with vitreous seeding, a total of 122 intravitreal
injections of melphalan (20-30 micro gm) were given every 7-10 days.
Concomitant treatments were used for complete sterilisation of the source of the seeding. All retained eyes were in complete
remission after a median follow-up period of 22 months (range 9-31 months). The Kaplan-Meier estimate of ocular survival rates
at 2 years was 84%. All patients were alive without evidence of extraocular spread.
However further studies are required to assess retinal toxicity and to better delineate role of intravitreal chemotherapy in the
management of retinoblastoma.
